Sure, some of those EBR public school parents are bad at parenting. But I bet you have some bad parents at your private school as well.

No doubt but the public schools in BR are in shambles other than the magnets.

Like the OP stated, you don't see stuff like this in Ascension or LP schools either. There's plenty of hourly workers in those school districts too.

The most succinctly stated summation of education (and the problem with it these days) I've ever read was: Education cannot given to someone. It can only be pursued by someone who has been taught to value its pursuit.

Households in Ascension Parish, LA have a median annual income of $71,752, which is more than the median annual income in the United States. In 2016, the median household income of the 163,764 households in East Baton Rouge Parish, LA declined to $50,508 from the previous year's value of $50,519

I do not think you are comparing apples to apples here. The above is quoted from datausa in a simple google search.

I think we agree however, EBR public schools are a complete and total disgrace to the kids who attend.

They didn’t show up because the knew it didn’t matter, they were getting their yes vote.. I wish to god someone with money would’ve put up a fight on this ballot but as usual it doesn’t happen. Until their purse strings are yanked nothing will make a difference

I don't know if anyone read the article but the bitch is no elected officials showed up not a lack of parents.

But be that as it may, IMHO the real issue is why should they? Who are "Power to the People" and why should elected officials be required to attend some meeting just because it is called by some facebook group?

She was required to be there as the BESE official for the district that encompasses EBR parish. I have no clue what this event is, no mention of it anywhere. It seems it was called "Power to the People" lead by James Gilmore (Guy that was the head of Brave and one of SWB first hires).

Basically it seems it was members from the alumni associations of McKinley, Glen Oaks, and Capitol High all getting together to question how the money from the tax renewal would be dispersed. (New schools are slated to be built in SBR and after the Baton Rouge High and Lee High constructions they want there cut.)

How anyone from that community after what he did with the Brave contract would entrust him to speak for them is the real problem I got from the actual picture. Those three alumni assoc. want a man that already has shown he cannot manage public funds (More than likely most of the Brave money him and his cronies pocketed) to have any say in how $93 million a year is spent on there children is SAD.

Y'all can talk shite all you want but I send my kid to ebr public schools (McKinley). It's really perfect for him and has tons of opportunities. He wants to be a ufc fighter when he grows up

I live in lily white Spokane, Washington and we just had "Dads and Doughnuts" at my daughter's school. You couldn't find a parking spot within a half mile of the school. It's like this every year.

Parental involvement is the #1 cause of educational success.

Exactly. If you knew you would get a paycheck no matter what, would you bother showing up for work?

Why should any of the other BESE members besides Lewis be required to go? You do understand the districts are statewide. Waste of time for a member from Shreveport to come to that. These are City-Parish funds from a tax renewal not state or federal funds which is what BESE and all of the "panelists" you have listed.

None of those people get paid. The board members of BESE only get per diem. The only one that needed to be there was Lewis and even then I dont understand why she was ths was a discussion about City-Parish funds, not state or federal.

no for that one kid, but if there are no less than 10 parents there on any given day, someone's kid is getting coddled.

I highly doubt that parents coordinate schedules and that the second parents are eating with their kids 4-5 times a week.

Aren't they just starting to call all the schools a magnet now?

We all laugh and joke about it, but it really is a problem

The public schools in NOLA have the same issue.. I can remember playing football against some of those schools, and there would be 40-50 kids on one of the teams, but then you look in the stands and see about 8-15 parents up there.. and this was at 7:00 on a Friday night usually..

It’s completely pathetic that these ‘parents’ just DGAF about their children (I know that not all cases are this way, but safe to say this applies to an overwhelming majority)

Then the same parents who have no involvement in their childs’ life will be the first useless MFer to complain about how their kids don’t get equal or fair treatment.... well no shite, they’re already behind the frickin 8 ball because they don’t have any guidance at their homes

Like I said, we all laugh and joke about it like it’s not a big deal, but it’s a damn shame. Some of those kids actually do give a frick, but they are already set up for failure

Simply pointing out these other "panelists", besides Lewis as she represents Baton Rouge, have no reason to be there and if they were could add nothing of value. The fine folk in NBR have no problem playing the victim card and completely changing the narrative, while at the same time letting a man that stole federal funds from there community speak for them.

I was saying that they knew they would get the tax vote because people blindly show up and vote yes for school taxes. They knew they would get the money so they had no motivation to show up.

Just to see if we are on the same page here, you know all these panelists were from BESE (Louisiana Board of Elem. and Sec. Education. Not the EBR school board right?

Not trying to be an arse btw, if you just go off the screen grab from Facebook, the original facebook poster did not even know what they were attending . Confusing how they worded the post, had nothing to do with the EBR school board.

Without being too harsh, this was certain groups basically begging for more state funding for stuff that they did not get in the tax renewal, (Such as a renovation to McKinley High etc..) and using the race card as the justification for why they should get it.
