extend it all the way to Lauberge even better.
It would never veer off of Nicholson Drive to get to River Road where L'auberge is located. I think CATS goes to L'auberge now.

We should have a Zion City to Towne Center route

First stage of the BR to NOLA monorail.
ETA: funding sources are not secured. All you need to know.

I thing it would be a great thing for BR. They should apply it in other areas too!

This is a build it because it somewhat makes since now but they will come and fully it makes since. Buses do not accomplish that because even if the bus had the saw "wow" factor, there isn't the same level of commitment that developers will look for.

Hint to you good ole baws - Baton Rouge is trying to attract people not like you.

This is a bad idea. LSU students will not use this long term because it runs through the ghetto. The better idea is to develop the south side of campus like one poster already mentioned.

People in here are seeing past the end of their noses. This train route goes from LSU to downtown. Very little LSU students are going to use this. This leaves non-LSU students in a very small area using this to go downtown and people downtown people using it to come to LSU. Why would a person living downtown use this train to go to LSU except for 7 days out of the year?
As previously stated, investment in infrastructure spurs development. This is why TxDOT builds 6-8 lane roads in the middle of nowhere. Downtown riders will use this daily to get to the new development in between dowtown and LSU, as will people who live and work in the areas to get to downtown.
If this train gets built, it will completely change the entire corridor. The public and private developments are coming, this is a logical step to connect them all.

Yes, it would make sense to have a connection to the south side of campus. However, as other posters have pointed out, 1- students apparently don't ride transit ( which I guess has changed since I was in school) and 2- there is a bus system already running on the south side area to grab those kids. Why not first build something that will increase ridership on transit, by professionals who need to get around downtown and the new developed area? Then, once established, and everyone recognizes how well this works, transit can be expanded to the south area of campus out to bluebonnet, or east out to Mid City.
I don't see why everyone can't see the benefit in these projects. Look at any other city in the country, or the world, who has implemented a plan similar to this. Did they remove the train and go back to the old status quo once it was built, because it didn't work?

Barely any people live on the route so I dont see many people using it.
It's the old urban planning chicken/egg problem. People won't move there because there aren't services. Services won't invest there because there aren't people. Eventually someone has to take a gamble.
With the water campus in the design phase, and a few other private developments on paper, I think this is a good gamble.

That's the thing that makes me laugh, frustratingly, when discussing things like this with people. They love to tell you why things won't work and the disaster projects like this will be, without any self-awareness of how far Louisiana lags in certain areas. I mean, shite guys, we're nearly last in every quality of life measurement out there but our citizens/legislature have the arrogance to keep trudging through the mud like everything is ok and they're smarter than everyone else.

Shoulda said let's print, as in print more money that we don't have.
Still makes I sense to build a tram when a bus line or trolley bus could do the job.

What part of federal and private do you not understand?

What part of federal doesn't include printing money?
100 million dollars would fix a lot of problems around EBR parish. Feds want to give us 100 million for light rail and people like yourself see it as "free". I do not.
It's a symptom of how govt. fails the citizenry because they dictate where funds have gone spent rather than letting locals decide what is best for themselves.
I know it sounds so simple, take the money and who cares. But when it's time for locals to maintain and operate the line and the Feds are gone, money needed for something else will go to the tram when it would be better served going to something else.

The initial capital expenditure is by far the largest, and after that point with the development and property taxes attached, the state will more than recoup whatever operating expenses they incur in the ordinary course. Further, you recoup some with usage fees.
eta. Houston, e.g., recovers 30% of their expenses from fares alone.

So take the 100 million, build a rail line where a bus route would likely suffice, and then take a million or more out of your own pocket to maintain and operate the line. Yes, we will probably do that and we will wonder why we police the city, fix potholes, and do the regular work govt. is designed to do because we are short on funds.
