With any luck, Mike Edmonson will overrule her in the name of public safety.

She may give that order but I'm willing to bet Mike Edmonston and Sid tell her to get fricked.

I'm sure he will. Sid also. Those two aren't going to be told what to do by the mayor of BR.

Several posters on here act like BR's decline is a recent phenomenon. BR's decline has been ongoing for at least a decade now.

I'm miffed about how building a wall along Florida boulevard or keeping both sides of Florida boulevard separate would save Baton Rouge. Please explain .

I'm almost afraid for the next police chief, no matter who it is. I pray she doesn't drive a wedge thru the police dept. and play politics with officer's careers. It could get real ugly if she divides the dept into either her puppets or her detractors.

Is a new chief appointed with each new mayoral admin. or is this just SWB's idea? I've always liked D'Abadie; thought he handled the Sterling/cop murders/protests about as well as he could.

BR had actually been on the upswing under Kip. The decline was during the 80's oil crunch through Katrina. BR began bouncing back after Katrina with renewed investment downtown and gentrification of mid city. The progress slowed when the oil prices tanked a year ago, and have now ground to a halt with the flood. If she doesn't handle the challenges to come, all of that progress will disappear and the city will collapse like Jackson, MS.

They take orders from the governor, so we're still screwed.

Wow, Nicely put. I just have a bad feeling about her; she's not the right person for the times we are living in. But I do have confidence in Edmonson & Gautreaux.

Any benefit of the doubt I was willing to give SWB went out the window when she appointed race baiter Gary Chambers to her transition team. Now she names Marcelle as her public safety advisor. I know several people who voted for her who are regretting their decisions. SWB has made no bones about the fact she wants a new police chief who is more sympathetic to blacks. After all that garbage about uniting BR, she seems to be assembling a very pro-black administration so far. This is exactly the kind of crap that brought Jackson, MS to where it is today.

Yep, looks like everything Kip worked for to create a modern, livable, walkable, safe(er), sustainable, integrated southern city is about to be fully undone...or not. The problem is everyone is f$&ked. It will be tough for the remaining whites to abandon EBR because of the flooded suburbs, but the unrest will drive them away. The jobs with the state and exxon won't go anywhere, but new investment and growth will dry up. Those businesses which don't have to be located here, like law firms and energy companies, will leave and take those residents with them (probably to the suburbs, Lafayette , or Texas).

There is only one way for the city/parish to survive if SWB continues down this race-baiting route, and that's division. They will need to divide the city/parish government so they can contain the sucking sound to just BR and save the rest of EBR.

We're all f$&ked.
