Baton Rouge has a reputation of a place where you need to put your kids in private schools to get a good education. But I have a hard time believing that there are no good public school optoins in the city.

Please educate me on the public school system in the area. This is something I get asked about all the time by my clients.

You can put your kids in magnet schools and they'll be fine if they are at least average intelligent or slightly above.

EBR has some really good magnets. Your kids have to score 40th percentile + and maintain at 2.5 gpa.

Elementary: Westdale Academic Magnet, Mayfair Magnet (K-8), BR FLAIM, and BRCVPA

Middle School: Sherwood Magnet, Mayfair Magnet, and McKinley Magnet

High School: Baton Rouge Magnet High

I don't know a ton about Liberty but their test scores etc seem to be pretty solid.

One of my daughter's friends is there and she likes it. Middle class white kid.

There are good options if you’re comfortable with your children head butting an under privileged youth’s knuckles

they have to be accepted. It's a lottery based system and there's other criteria that could possibly work out, not in your favor.

My youngest daughter went to private school through the 8th grade and magnet in HS (so far). It was just a better fit for her personality. It wasn't hard for her to get in. She's an upper middle class white kid.

No clue what all goes on behind the selection process but she's not a child prodigy or anything. 3.5 gpa type.

Average ACT at Liberty is around 22, average ACT at BRMHS is around 26. BRMHS is ranked 100-400 nationally, Liberty is 800-1200.

Liberty is better than other publics and has the major sports, cheerleading, and a marching band.

BRMHS is a better academic school and sends a bunch of kids to the ivys and other elite schools every year. LINK

That wasn’t Lee High. That was an old film set used for The Jetson’s.

Br high is great academically. Some of the lower school magnet are good as well … the real benefit to the BR private schools and UHigh are with the shared expectation of success for the majority of students. That builds a solid social network for beyond high school.

It depends on the students ability too. I have a brother that went to Broadmoor and he became an MD. My ex sister also went there and she’s an optometrist.

Glassglow gifted program is a really good middle school option. I would rank them 1 and Sherwood 2 and private after that.
