But, have you seen the St. George budget
Yes, and even the mayor says they will run a surplus.
Were you disappointed the SG budget didn't have a line item for bike share, a LGBT officer, a grocery store, BRAVE, or for a bike path to the casino?

All I am saying is there are needs and wants.
Needs which is what the government setup for
- proper sewage system
- we need good roads
- we need stormwater run off
- we need a properly funded DA’s office
- we need a properly funded Fire, sheriff or city police dept depends on where you live.
Wants
- Giving money to NBR to attract a grocery store which competes against private businesses.
They need to fix the problems the businesses have operating in this area. If the area proves profitable then businesses would come.
- diversity study $300,000
- government efficiency study $300,000
These are wants not needs.
Just like when you sit down to budget
Needs
- food
- water
-shelter
- basic clothing
- transportation to be around
Include
Bicycle
Walking shoes if wear dress shoes to work if you depend on walking a lot
Public transportation if used
Private basic transportation if used
Want
- fancy designer clothing
-jewelry
- nails done
- video games
- sporting goods equipment
- entertainment
City and parish seems to fill wants before needs.
This needs to change.
If you have money left over from needs then you can spend on wants.
Pretty simple.
They do not get it.

I am disappointed you didn't get my sarcasm. The Together BR crowd is always questioning the St. George budget and I am always pointing how the City/Parish Budget isn't any better.

Why are taxpayers on the hook for trying to court a goddamn grocery store?
We're constantly told that NBR is some sort of gold deposit waiting to be mined yet they need the taxpayers to foot the bill to coerce a store to set up shop. I'm so sick of this nonsense.

NBR can't take care of the shite they already have. They could open up a brand new store and it would be trashed within a month. No chain is going to want to invest in a store that will inevitably lose them money. Plus, the extra pressure of having people like Gravy extort you isn't worth the hassle.

When Broome campaigned for mayor in 2016, she pledged at a Together Baton Rouge forum to commit $1.5 million to attract grocery stores to underserved neighborhoods.
Why not spend that $1.5 million on fixing street lights and sidewalks?
Tony’s is the best seafood store in the region, and it’s right on Plank Road.
The original Hi Nabor, and independent grocery, has been in north Baton Rouge for longer than most of us have been alive.
In addition to the above, there is the following north of Florida Blvd:
1 Wal Mart Super Center on Oak Villa
2 Family Dollar stores
3 chain pharmacy stores (CVS, Walgreens, Etc)
2 Shoppers Value Supermarkets
2 small neighborhood independent grocery stores
I question if the area is under served at all. They may not be Whole Foods, but it’s not like North Baton Rouge is a food desert.

Isn’t this the type of thing a private foundation with more money than the LSU foundation dedicated to improving the Baton Rouge area, should take up. If only there was such a foundation.oh yeah they too busy building shopping centers across the USA.

This. Corporations don’t care about color. If there is money to be made, Corporations would set up shop there. I don’t get why people like Gravy can’t grasp this concept. No one is opening a store to lose money. It’s economics not race.

Your are right if there is money to be made someone will open a store there.

Hi Nabor is ten minutes from how large of an area? 3/4/5mile radius?
Is a grocery store within walking distance of your house? Not mine.
Is that what Broome is angling for?

I couldn't walk to the grocery. I would bet one of the largest expenses of NBR grocery stores is buggies. You always see people just walking down the street with their groceries in a buggy and you know they do not return it.

They also moved their Drusilla store to Florida (old Broadmoor Theater strip mall). Between those two stores they're servicing a good portion of southern NBR.

Cortana isn't NBR, but I get your point.

He's proudly ignorant in economics and, to make everyone feel warm and fuzzy, he has been tapped to be a contributor to the NBR economic redevelopment plan.
That plan is going to land multiple people in jail but the sad part is that the usual people will vehemently defend the corruption.

Where do people in NBR go for:
Cappuccino?
Sushi?
Reading materials?
Home improvement?
Golf and tennis?
Boggles my mind.
