How about that major portion that goes to funding Capital Area Transit. I guarantee you the people that ride that pitiful service don't pay a cent in property tax or bus tickets for that matter...

Mosquito abatement and BREC are the few things that BR does right IMO. And yeah, the amount of money received by the library is a joke.

Im all about the Mosquito abatement and BREC seems to be up and down. It puts in place decent developments but the maintenance and upkeep on the facilities always appear to lack.

I moved out of EBR and haven't looked back.

Until they make it that only property owners vote on property taxes, cities will continue to fall down the progressive liberal shithole of over taxation.

It fricking kills me when they decide on a huge project and then brag how they are paying for it out of their "surplus". Yes, agencies should keep a small Rainy Day fund for unexpected occurrences or Rainy Day items. But our public agencies aren't For Profit entities. Why do we have them amassing giant pots of money? If that shite is happening then they need to cut their millages and bleed off the excess. But they just keep fleecing the taxpayer and putting the money into their coffers.

BREC does very well in certain areas but not as good in others.
They could care less about baseball but shine in soccer.
The problem is BREC collects too much in taxes. I think they could manage things with 10% less but there’s no push to do so.

The people who don't own any of said property are all for it, I'm sure....

IIRC, Baton Rouge has more libraries than all the other large metro areas in Louisiana combined. It is the second largest department in EBR government behind only BRPD, and if Broomhilda is re-elected and further chops BRPD, it will likely be first. And the per library annual budget elsewhere is slightly under $1M while here it is over $4M. Wonder why she and Lipsey and others are fighting St George tooth and nail?

Apparently none of that money goes to paying people that will actually clean up the trash everywhere.

Notice I say actually, because I’m sure someone is being paid to do it and isn’t.

Get rid of the homestead exemption and spread the pain to everyone. The people that have been paying for shouldn’t be affected much since there are more paying and those that have never paid will finally have to think twice before they vote to raise property taxes every other year.

At a time when library usage has probably declined a lot. I'm not saying get rid of all of them but we don't need 12 or however many we have.

BREC gets too much money. Half of those mileages should not be renewed. The parish library also gets too much money. The Council on Aging needs new leadership. There are tons of people on the wait list to get meals and they have the funds to provide it.

The only item that's not completely flawed is BREC. The rest have made the news for some type of financial scandal...the only scandal BREC's had was the Zoo relocation. BUT people be to WOKE for that

Everything gets renewed because half the parish has a house that cost less than $75,000.

For the sake of comparison, I pay the same in property tax in EBR as a 1.5 million dollar home in Park City, UT. Needless to say the return on investment in the two locations is night and day.
