There was a McDonald’s Express in front of the mall. Only one I ever recall seeing. For whatever reason, they served chili dogs.

That’s how most of the OT got fat.

El Chico always meant we were going to Fun Fair Park first.

What was the "Italian" place inside Cortana? Mama something? It was near Taco Bell, Payless Shoes, the airbrush T-shirt shop, maybe Bath and Body and the cookie "store" (walk-up counter, chocolate chip cookies) was kind of across, a tiny way down a main artery.

NVM - Apparently I thought it was Mama Brava's. Mama Bova has me questioning my childhood.

I worked for an A/C repair guy for a summer. He did commercial refrigeration. He had a few residential clients (owners of the businesses he did work).

Calendars was one of the businesses. That kitchen was fricking nasty. We worked on their coolers before it opened up for business and the floors were nasty. The food prep area had shite everywhere. The grills were not cleaned. It was bad. The one on Coursey was the same too.

Never ate that after that.

La Fonda's back in the day, was Log Cabin Restaurant. My Uncle Claiborne and Aunt Nita were part owners. They lived in the log house on the property. Good times.

Best chicken biscuit ever.

My mom would buy two dozen of the plain biscuits at a time without the chicken. She'd freeze them. I made peanut and butter jelly biscuits out of them.

In later years I was fortunate enough to live just around the corner from the Baker location.

I'm going to take a trip to Georgia just to eat at one of the remaining ones. Hope it's as good as I remember

It was Mama Brava’s. Your picture says that.

Side note: I worked for a few years as a bartender at Bennigan’s in Metairie, by the lakeside mall. Phenomenal job. (What I remember of it. I was drunk a lot)

Moved back home and transferred to the Mall of Louisiana location. I still compare all other jobs to that nightmare. It was easily the worst place I’ve ever worked in my life. The customers that came to that place… there were multiple shifts when I worked a double- 10am to 2am and walked with like $40. A kitchen guy with serious mental health issues tried to kill me out of the blue. Cars got broken into regularly. Only lasted there about a month.

The fried cheese there was the shite. The wife, no pics, still dreams about those and brings up how good they were at least 4 time a year.

I miss going every Sunday with my dad, Aunt Leola, and Uncle Ben to feast at Western Sizzlin on Florida Blvd circa the late 80s.

One of my sorority sisters worked there and got me a job. I waited tables there for a stint and hated it. Some eurotrash puked red wine all over one of my tables. My first night working I had a dine and dash table. One afternoon I had to work an actual white trash wedding reception at the restaurant.

The only food I would eat from there was the potato soup because it was delivered to the restaurant in a bag and then dumped into the soup warmer. It felt safe.

Did the cook who tried to kill you have a teardrop tattoo on his face? He was actually was pretty nice to me. But he was still scary. I had a table one night that made me cry and he offered to “make their food special” for them. I declined, but that was disturbing.
