He came from a good family in Shreveport and had some problems like a lot of people. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Again, at this point we don't know the entire conversation that occurred.

Has anyone heard anything more about a suspect in this murder?

Project NOLA - Facebook
For those that rushed to judgment about the victim from a video snippet, you are part of the problem in this country. Now we have to wait for DA Williams to do his duty or pressure him to do so.

With today's arrest of James D. Patton, the NOPD, U.S. Marshals and Project NOLA have found Justice for Russell Ricou, Jr., who was senselessly murdered by a single point-blank shot to the head on 1-9-2022 in the 900 Block of Conti in the French Quarter. Unfortunately, grainy video showing Mr. Ricou throwing a punch at the gunman was released to the public by someone near the crime scene, which regrettably led many to false conclusions, likely adding to the agony and confusion of the victim's loved ones. To that I wish to say the following: I only witnessed the last two minutes of Mr. Ricou's life. As I have done in thousands of homicides, shootings, stabbings, rapes and robbery investigations, it was my job to analyze crime camera footage, frame by frame, from multiple angles to assist detectives. In the last two minutes of Mr. Ricou's life, I saw a man that valiantly helped a stranger, showed no fear when threatened with a gun, who at the end courageously chose fight over flight. New Orleans has a bad crime problem. Please be part of the solution and not the problem. It takes a village and we need all the help we can get.

The shooter was a fairly quick draw.... Lol
Probably had his hand on gun in his jacket pocket.
Bullet faster than a punch.

It’ll be interesting to see how Williams’ office will pursue this.

Local guy got murdered while in the FQ. Early gossip was he was a hot head. Don’t think this was what happened here tho. Think he got murdered while trying to intervene in a crime.

He’ll convict the murderer then let him out in a few years.

I would never live in New Orleans. Poorly run and crime is always through the roof. I have in-laws that live there, and they have had vehicles broken into and stolen. If I got a job in New Orleans, I would choose to live on the Northshore and just commute.

Mikelbr, I stumbled upon this post and seen your comment. I am one of Russell’s best friends. Someone he lived with for 3.5 years and I know how he would get too, but you obviously don’t know what happened that night. He was not “hammered” and he was actually helping two girls that the shooter was harassing. That was actually posted on ProjectNOLA’s Facebook page as well if you’d like to check that out. Even the video that was posted, you can clearly see the man reach for his gun before Russell ever tried to punch.
