It's pathetic to me seeing viral videos of cops playing basketball or something similar with kids. That's not your job! I understand the need for some outreach, but that's not policing. We are paying taxes for cops to gain a child's implicit trust over a game of HORSE? Yikes.

Eh, I don't mind cops doing that occasionally to relate to the community, but turning it into something that they're obligated to do for an hour a day, 3x/week is silly.

Going this weekend to look at properties in another state. I can't take the BS any longer.

I see your point, but I really don’t mind this. If the cop has nothing going on, it won’t hurt to go play with some kids for a few minutes.

What bothers me is that segments of the community have essentially demanded the cops babysit their kids under the guise of community policing or they’ll keep being criminals. Police officers are not supplements or replacements to your parenting.

Isnt this the job the chief is supposed to be doing? I can understand having a no.2 but whats the point having deputy chiefs for each one? Do they not have some type of head lt. of sorts already?

Just like everything else. They want the title, but want to pass the actual work off on everyone else.

The chief has been promoted over his level of competence. He’s now trying to bring people in to do shite for him but will inevitably over-hire more people not competent to do their jobs.

I foresee a lot of BR cops jumping to either EBRPSO or other municipalities which aren’t as dysfunctional.

The deputy chiefs will be 1 black female, 1 black male, and 1 white male/female.

The only reason the white person will get the spot is so that the chief doesn’t seem too racist

That should read “so that they have one whitey who will do all the work”.

Has anyone gone back and did the research on the lawsuit filed against Louisiana State Police many years ago where the entry test was tossed out due to alleged or perceived bias along racial lines?

I believe that the current chief of BRPD was one of the plaintiffs. It's no surprise he's carrying on a familiar tradition now that he's with BRPD itself.

Someone Google. I'm not doing the research for you.

In the lawsuit, the Justice Department argued that the test was not job-related and disproportionately excluded African American applicants who were otherwise qualified. From 1991 to 1996, only 25 percent of African American candidates passed the exam, compared to a 66% pass rate for whites. The Justice Department found that, as a result, minorities were hired at significantly lower rates than whites. Under the terms of the agreement, the state of Louisiana will hire a contractor to develop an exam that is demonstrably job-related and does not discriminate against African Americans. In addition, the state has been ordered to provide monetary compensation in the amount of $1 million to victims of discrimination and to give hiring priority to qualified African American candidates who were eliminated by the test. The state also has been ordered to follow a plan of outreach to and recruitment of to minority candidates.

The fact that the feds consider disparity of outcome "discrimination" and force people to change neutral standards is absolutely retarded.

So the developer of the test chose questions that would favor white people?

You're racist for even asking such questions.

Nah, EBRSO is better, but not by a lot. They're struggling to retain their own deputies. Most BRPD officers who leave head out of the parish, and rightfully so.
