Baton Rouge deputy chief applications to reopen; no exam will be required

The applications for the Baton Rouge Police Department’s three deputy chief positions will reopen after the local civil service board agreed Tuesday with Chief Murphy Paul that applicants will not have to take an exam to qualify for the position.
quote:
Paul told a meeting of the Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Board Tuesday morning that there used to be one deputy chief's position but that it was recently divided into three positions, which are new positions with added responsibilities and requirements.
quote:
One of the deputy chiefs will oversee administration, another will be over operation services and the third will be over field operations. This makes testing the new applicants on the old requirements inaccurate, Paul said.
quote:
Regardless of the specific number of tests, the board members agreed that there should be a test for future hirings. Board member Rob Moruzzi said he thinks an exam separates out those who are competent leaders and deters favoritism. “I think that the civil service was created so that the good old boy system couldn’t occur,” said Moruzzi, who is also a Baton Rouge Police Department officer. “In this case, basically, all (somebody has) to be is a sergeant and they got it as long as they’re in with the chief. I think the test kind of delineates between who has the intelligence to hold that position and who doesn’t.”
Looks like the new chief is already starting off with a bang

I don't meet the qualifications, and haven't met them since before I was born.

WTF? He doesn’t like who passed the test so he eliminated the test? What kind of frickery is that ?

The good ol boy system is an abomination unless we're in charge

Absolutely abysmal. When the lawmen make their own rules, how can they expect those they police to follow the rules?

I wonder if our local rabble-rousers will now blindly back the blue

Eh, this probably has more to do with the mayor's influence. She probably wants to start 12 more committees and groups for the cops to go out and start conversations in the communatah.

Rules are the same as laws now?

Let me translate this for you
"The guys I want filling these roles don't have a chance in hell of passing any type of examination"

meeting and outreach create the illusion that they are doing something worthwhile, its pathetic

No, but laws are the same as rules. The structured guideline of laws are meant to be followed in order to promulgate a civil society. When CIVIL service members refuse to follow their own rules, what message does that send to the community?

I think they really believe that "community policing" is an effective way to reduce crime, but as I understand it, it has never been proven to work.

This reads like a ready-made lawsuit. Take an existing standard based upon merit and cast it into the wind?

If you need cops to act like your kids’ father and bring them free shite in order to stop acting like a thug, your community is beyond saving. Community policing across the country has turned into a charity rather than police work.
I didn’t know a single cop who patrolled my area. I turned out alright.

Inserting the state as a parental figure is a cornerstone of Democrat doctrine.
