they can try that.
I
Word to the wise.
If you do not have a concealed carry permit and you are traveling in your vehicle in Louisiana you can put your firearm anywhere in your vehicle that you want. Out of sight,in a glove box. In your center console.
Wherever you want to put that motherfricker and you do not.
I repeat.
You do not have to tel la police officer that the gun is in your vehicle.
Not saying you shouldn't tell them but you are in your legal rights to not.
Now. If you do possess a Concealed Carry permit and an officer stops you then by law you must let the officer know you have a firearm in the vehicle.
But having this permit i'm sure you already know this.

I'm not exactly sure how they will do it but I assume something like this:
"Sir, do you have a firearm in the car?"
"Is it registered?"
I also was told they are looking for actual serial numbers on the gun itself and if the person if a felon or not. Along with a CCP if the gun is concealed and the person has a permit.

Yeah, frick me for trying to empathize with the two officers in the Alton case who could really use our support right now right?

I'm just wondering how they can legally make a sweep to take guns off the street. This is always a priority for cops but they can only do so much legally

Where did he leave the car though? Didn't they say he was walking down Airline?
It's probably in one of those hotel parking lots. But my assumption is the cops have already picked it up.

there is no gun registration in Louisiana

That's weird. I was just told (rumor mill but it is source within LEO) that BRPD and EBPSO were told not to make any traffic stops or do checkpoints of any kind last week. Just accidents and/or emergency calls. Thinking firearm checks would be slightly risky right now.

you're the first person i've read that has put or insinuated blame for the death of these officers and on them. i get you think you were making a good point but the whole point was based on a terrible assumption.

"United Washitaw de Dugdahmoundyah Mu’ur Nation"
Gavin Eugene Long was a member of United Washitaw de Dugdahmoundyah Mu’ur Nation, Mid-West Washita Tribes
Baton Rouge Cop-Killer Linked to Nation of Islam
"He took up anti-government views, and while he said he didn’t want to be affiliated with any organized groups, he was a member of a bizarre offshoot of the sovereign citizen movement and had been associated with the Nation of Islam. He saw police as part of the government and was outraged by the recent spate of police shootings of black men."
I've said this for months and I'll say it again the Black Lives Matter movement is nothing more than an offshoot of the Nation of Islam. Anyone who thinks its not needs to research this connection. LINK "A belief that the U.S. government is inherently evil is the common thread between the plot by the two New Black Panther Party members, the Nation of Islam’s ideology and the Islamic State supporters."

that is an interesting question, can you "Conceal" carry in your waist band while within your car? If car is true extension of home, i guess so but kind of an unusual circumstance.

Are they going to do this? And if so it wouldn't be the police dept. doing the sweeping.

I'm no expert, but I would doubt there will be random searches of vehicles without a declaration of martial law.
La. Constitution, Article 1, Sec. 11:
§11. Right to Keep and Bear Arms
Section 11. The right of each citizen to keep and bear arms is fundamental and shall not be infringed. Any restriction on this right shall be subject to strict scrutiny.
La. R.S. 14:95:
§95. Illegal carrying of weapons
A. Illegal carrying of weapons is:
(1) The intentional concealment of any firearm, or other instrumentality customarily used or intended for probable use as a dangerous weapon, on one's person;. . .
An automobile is not one's person, the Louisiana Supreme Court has decided that decades ago. And we have that "warrantless search issue without probable cause", incidental to an arrest, or even upon reasonable suspicion.
La. Constitution, Article 1, Sec. 5 (La.'s version of the US 4th Amendment):
§5. Right to Privacy
Section 5. Every person shall be secure in his person, property, communications, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches, seizures, or invasions of privacy. No warrant shall issue without probable cause supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, the persons or things to be seized, and the lawful purpose or reason for the search. Any person adversely affected by a search or seizure conducted in violation of this Section shall have standing to raise its illegality in the appropriate court.

my source is legit, I don't know HOW they will do it, but mark my words, they will.
He told me of the Coursey incident the moment it was being posted here as "Active shooter" and the details of that.
I'll leave it at that.
