They're promoting the idea of closing the Washington Street exit on 1-10 east bound in Baton Rouge. I'm not sure that's going to make any difference at all with the major traffic congestion in that area. I guess a "new bridge" will not happen during anyone's lifetime that's currently over 20 years old.

There was a thread about it a few days ago.

Should have been done decades ago but it’s racists to suggest it. Totally useless exit relative to the space it takes up. The bane of the entire I-10 interstate from coast to coast.

I’m all for closing because I’m sick of the idiots who come from i110 and exit at Washington St. but I don’t understand how it would help without adding an additional lane to i10. I10 is 3 lanes wide after the Washington street lane peels off. Two of the 3 lanes are coming from i110. Unless i110 gets squeezed down to one lane, i10 east bound still squeezes down to one lane.

It’s useless until they make 2 lanes coming off the bridge, onto 10, instead of having 1.

The entire point of creating that Terrace exit was to close the Washington exit. Why didn't they immediately close the Washington exit when the Terrace exit opened?

Are they going to extend the lane past Washington Street once and if they actually close it?

Obviously . . . which is why it's part of the massive MS River Bridge expansion project. This is also why they built the Terrace St exit a couple of years ago.

Exactly. I have zero problem closing the exit. But the main issue is not the exit. Its the fact the interstate drops to 1 lane there.

Straight up racism if they close the exit.

No shite! Again anyone who has driven across the Horace Wilkinson Bridge over the past 30 years and has at least one functioning brain cell knows and understands that this choke point is the main problem.

I think . . . this just might be the main reason why they are spending a gazillion dollars over the next five years to eliminate this choke point and to expand the current flow of traffic to four lanes from the bridge to Acadian and five lanes from Acadian to the 10-12 split.

However the current Washington street exit is a huge problem because the local dumbasses still think its perfectly acceptable to cut across several lanes of merging traffic to take the Washington St exit instead of taking the Terrace or Gov't street exits.

The Washington street exit doesn't even exit to Washington street anymore because of the moronic Broome squad

They plan to include that as part of the widening. But it would still need to be approved by people at different levels of state and federal government. They think they can get that done quickly, but they always say that and then 10 years later nothing has been done.
