We should shoot you for not knowing your cardinal directions.

Also the driver was killed in the fire.

ETA: LEAVING THIS HERE BECAUSE I'M AN a-hole AND I SHOULD BE SHOT FOR LACK OF READING COMPREHENSION.

It's a straight road. Get off your phone and pay attention. This board is always looking for someone to blame. It's like CNN.

It's the drivers' fault too. There is enough blame to go around though. If a straight road has too many wrecks, the fix is not to put more cars on it.

Pretty sure BR is east of Houston.

I mean I guess you could take the scenic route and head west from Houston. You'll get to BR eventually.

Higher chance it was your standard left lane hog with Texas plates.

what1? You want the government to limit the number of cars on the interstate. Is this mother Russia?

and no, you will not be allowed to add another lane on the Basin Bridge. EPA would not allow it and the only way to afford it would be tolls and Louisiana doesn't pay tolls -- they want the government to do everything and do it for free .

Just drive the speed limit and put the phone down for the 20 miles or so on the basin bridge.

also, this happened in the middle of the night. It was not a high traffic time.

The large majority of crashes, and nearly all of the fatal crashes happen at time of low/non-congestion and/or bad weather. Safer roads are slower roads, but we all hate slower roads. Its hard to find the right balance.

Because the dipshits in charge don't understand what causes wrecks. They blame it on speed so they think slower speeds = fewer wrecks. That is exactly backwards for a highway with no intersections. Slower speeds = more cars packed together = more wrecks.

Problem isn't speed. They can make the speed limit 65 without an issue. The problem is lane usage, traffic, and to a lesser extent the prevalence of overnight fog on that stretch of highway.

There is heavy traffic EVERYWHERE I-10 and I-12 in Louisiana is only 4 lanes wide - not just the basin bridge. Then you add in speed differentials because some people obey the limit and many don't because it's not enforced. Then you add in trucks that do not pay attention to the "trucks use right lane only" signs on the bridge because that's not enforced either, and you have a major traffic compression issue.

Some a-hole sneezes and jerks the wheel, and you get a multi car pile up with no way to turn around because you are on a fricking bridge. And the deck is narrow enough where a single overturned truck blocks the entire freeway in that direction for 5+ hours.

It's a huge cost, but we've seriously got to consider widening that bridge to 6 lanes, adding a 14' inside shoulder, and installing lighting the whole way.

Enforce left lane laws would eliminate much of the issue; not all of it but most of it.

They don’t enforce the trucks right lane only. Speeding is not the problem. Law personnel running radar in order to collect money IS a safety issue. YES, people in their phones are the problem.

This truck was in the right hand lane.

I’ve traveled it a lot lately and honestly haven’t seen bad truckers. Car drivers are often the assholes that I see.

Prayers for the deceased.

Possible, but driving eastbound over the basin at dawn on a Friday morning? Not exactly high on the probability table

Technically speed is always the problem. But I get what you're saying...if people drove safely, didn't tailgate, and were fully aware of the road the number of car crashes would decrease significantly.

But that is not the world we live in. So lowering the speed and enforcing lower speeds is technically the right solution, and results in less crashes and less fatal crashes. BUT WE MOSTLY ALL HATE LOWER SPEED LIMITS AND SPEED CAMERAS! Also, the interstate is designed for people to drive fast, maybe too fast at times. Finding the balance is really hard and don't think we've accomplished that over the basin.

What in the hell are you talking about? I'm saying government should raise the speed limit because lowering the limit puts more cars on the road.
