Same orbit? Do you just mean historically and predominantly produced by black artists?

It is a fact that both genres stem from the same roots. R&B stems from the blues in the 40s and 50s and HipHop emerged from R&B directly in the 70s. Its really not even up for debate.

You seem to be the only one debating it.

ETA: That still doesn’t make them the “same thing” though.

Super Bowl is for bored white women and cubicle bros with fantasy/pick-em leagues. It's a garbage product and has been for a long time.

Some shitty rapper sounds about on point.

Huh? Kendrick Lamar and Bad Bunny are like the very definition of mainstream acts.

Same root, but very different musically.

R&B wasnt nearly as trashy and simple as its descendants.

The NFL playoffs and Super Bowl are probably the best sports productions in the World, maybe rivaled only by the Men’s World Cup. The Olympics could also be in the conversation, maybe.

You can frick off with that simple-minded shite.

Trying to argue that Rihanna and Usher are in some COMPLETELY DIFFERENT music realm from rap and hip hop is fricking insane.

Usher's biggest hit is Yeah! with Lil' Jon and Ludacris.

Two of Rihanna's biggest three hits are with rappers (Eminem and Jay Z).

quote:

AI Overview
Rihanna has rapped on several songs, including "Lemme Get That" from Good Girl Gone Bad, "Live Your Life" with T.I., and the N.E.R.D. track "Lemon". She also delivered rap verses on other tracks like Drake's "Take Care" and Kanye West's "Famous," showcasing her versatility across genres and collaborations.
Songs where Rihanna raps:

Lemme Get That: (2007): One of the first times Rihanna showcased her rapping skills.
Live Your Life: with T.I. (2008).
Lemon: with N.E.R.D. (2010).
Take Care: with Drake (2011): Rihanna contributed a rap-like verse.
Famous: with Kanye West (2016): Rihanna delivered a rap on the track.

Other collaborations where she shows a strong rap-like delivery:

Loyalty: with Kendrick Lamar (2017): A feature where she incorporates a strong vocal rhythm.
Wild Thoughts: with DJ Khaled (2017): A verse with a notable, rhythmic flow.

Even if you ignore the streaming numbers, Bad Bunny has hosted SNL numerous times, was in a pretty popular movie within the last few months, and has even dated a Jenner. To act like he is some obscure artist is laughable.

If he did a US tour right now it would be the second biggest ever behind the Eras Tour.

You seem upset by this.

They are in fact artists in different musical genres.

Metallica is also a rap artist, because metal came from rock which came from blues, just like hip hop > R&B > Blues

fun bunch is right about the Jay-Z thing…however I am hard pressed to think of a band or musician right now that’s not pop or rap that would appeal to the masses enough to play the Super Bowl. Like I can’t think of one single rock band that would fit in with the spectacle production they want.

I saw someone mention Metallica LOL. They’re great obviously but a metal band ain’t going to play the super bowl

I wasn't until you tried to make it racial.

And musical genres are fluid with gray areas. Trying to act like there are strict categories is stupid.

If you record with rappers, tour with rappers, have your biggest hits with rappers, occasionally rap yourself - don't get upset when you get lumped in with rappers and hip hop.
