Its clear the NFL marketing team isn't interesting in giving the fans what they want.

Its either political influence or trying to gain market share from hispanics.

Because it sure isn't trying to put the best show on as possible for the majority of fans.

I think they hit their target demographic perfectly.

Are Hispanics not fans? My Hispanic neighbor has his dumb Panthers flag flying out there every season.

Not only that, 1/4 fans are black/hispanic. 1/3 fans are under the age of 35. Urban areas drive digital interaction and millennials lead digital engagement. I would venture to say the young crowd likely also is a significant driver of merchandise.

Advertisers are going to love the reduced rates for the halftime show.

Ads are already the cheapest they are going to be during half time. There are no ads during the show just before and after.

It's really interesting that they love the game of football so much being as there are not that many Hispanic players. Over here in TX if you're in a majority Latino area the high school's football teams are generally trash.

I'd venture to say that most of this board has seen Happy Gilmore 2 and has no idea that he plays Gilmore's caddy.

Cam'ron and Posty were too, I'd take either of them instead

Hey, if we want to argue that they should target folks already watching then I’m cool with that.

I mean, showing a little appreciation to your actual fans that support your product is not the worst thing in the world. Or even a ridiculous ask. I don't consider it that, but I can see how many football fans view this as a bit of a slap in the face. It's not like the Super Bowl is in Puerto Rico this year

quote:

But they’ve always targeted the “wives and kids” groups with the halftime show.

I wouldn't say always. The trend is that they are completely going away with that. The last couple shows were Kendrick Lamar, Usher, Lil John Ludacris, Rihanna, Eminem, Dre, and The Weekend. I guess you could classify Rihanna and maybe The Weekend as "wives and kids", but not much in the past 5 years have been that. Now six years. Some of those were great shows, but still not targeted at the majority of football fans.

quote:

And with the push to establish a stronger Latino/Hispanic demographic, this makes a lot of sense.

If that's the argument, I get that. What I don't agree with is that that will bring in even a remotely noteworthy amount of football fans. It will get viewers to watch the halftime show because of Bad Bunny. Good deal. But there's is no way a significant amount of people are going to say "Hey, the NFL had Bad Bunny as the halftime show, I'm going to start liking football and sign up for NFL Redzone this year". Having Bad Bunny will increase rating for 30 minutes, it's not going to create a bunch of NFL fans.

quote:

I think the larger issue is the folks selling out arenas for concerts have changed. Not many rock bands can put on that kind of show that has mass appeal. That leans more Taylor Swift or Bad Bunny (he sold out here in Louisville at Yum). And they’re not marching Ghost out there for a halftime show.

I guess we could default back to pre-90s with university marching bands.

I went to a Zac Bryan concert not long ago at the Texans arena and it was packed out from general admission to the nosebleeds. The Killers fill arenas and have tons of memorable songs. They aren't my favorite but the Foo Fighters fill out arenas and put on a good show. Hell, Oasis is having a reunion tour that is massive and sold out arenas in minutes, that would have been really good. Plenty of others out there. Add to the fact that they are combining artist so you could fill it with numerous performers with wide appeal. Lack of people to use is not a legit excuse imo.

I'll give you Zac Bryan but I was referring more to younger bands that are being listened to by that demographic they target for the halftime show.

I guess the question is, who are the majority of actual NFL fans and what is that demographic even listening to at this point?

Regardless of how it is spun, "Bad Bunny" will have limited appeal and isnt going to attract new football fans.

Its strange that the SB chose a feature artist so many normal people have never heard of.

It's actually men 55 and up, so not even middle aged. And damn near half are women.

This report from 2024 says:

quote:

Half of Americans watch the NFL; half of those are older adults (55+), half are fans of the Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers or the Green Bay Packers, and 42% are women.

NFL viewership in the US is skewed toward adults 55 and older, while in Europe, far more young adults view NFL games.

The NFL is a made-for-TV sport. Only 12% of NFL viewers indicated attending a game in person.

About two-thirds of those placing sports bets place bets on NFL games.
The Kansas City Chiefs are the most popular NFL team in the US, followed by the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers.

I just saw where Zac Bryan broke an attendance record and played for 112,000 people.

Seems like an obviously great choice for halftime show…but they wouldn’t get to push their demonic agenda so maybe not.

I think you're underestimating his appeal.

He sold out his concern here in Louisville in 2024 at the Yum Center (holds about 23k with their concert setup). He has billions of streams on Spotify and held annual streaming number records until Swift's Era Tour.

Why does the NFL feel the need to cater to a crowd that generally despised the NFL and football at the expense of those that really like football?

It’s dumbass marketing

55 is smack dab in the middle of middle aged

quote:

The demographic breakdown of NFL viewers reveals a significant age disparity in the US, where nearly half (47%) of viewers are aged 55 and older, while only 17% are young adults under 35.

Doing some simple math, 36% are aged 35-55. So I 'm gonna stand by middle aged.
