I wouldn't say that. I suspect the City of New Orleans will be named a defendant in forthcoming lawsuits as well as possibly NOPD, and other entities.

Jesus Christ. How ridiculous.

No doubt NOPD and the city will be sued for failing to block off the road.

one of the victims will receive any sort of compensation for their injuries besides the driver getting a jail sentence for a period of time unfortunately. I highly doubt this guy had more than the state limits of vehicle insurance and no assets to speak of

What name is truck titled under? Parents?

Yeah, these people will, at minimum, be looking to have their medical bills paid, and there's no way the driver had anything but minimum insurance. Hell, even if he had $500k in coverage, that won't go far split between 28 people.

1. This sack of shite has zero assets.

2. They're going to claim the city and NOPD failed to adequately protect paradegoers.

I'm not saying it'll stick, but they'll try.

Yes, people usually get upset if you try to stop them from doing what they want, like committing crimes.

Yeah he posted a "I've never had a DUI but if I did I'd want it to go something like this" video.

Not a video of a truck driving through a mardi gras crowd..

If the city wants people to continue to come in from all over the world for Mardi Gras, they'll at least take care of the medical bills for those injured. They also need to close both sides of streets that parades go down. How something like this hadn't happened before is a miracle. I expect big changes next year..

Wife's friends brother in law and friends were involved. Came down from Chicago to enjoy the day and wound up in the hospital. One has some scrapes and bruises but a girl he was with has broken pelvis. Such a terrible thing to have to go through

How much of a case can there be? They've had the same protocol for decades without a problem, so that makes it a lot harder to argue negligence.

I don't. How it's NOPDs fault. There are so many people at these parades. I don't see how you can completely eliminate the chance of something like this happening.
