I always back in. It's just easier to spot other cars or pedestrians when leaving.

You obviously haven't worked around oil and gas or pipeline companies, there are facilities that I call on that will make you go out and re-park your truck if you didn't back in when parking in their lot. If you are calling on oil and gas clients always back in to show you understand their safety culture.

I noticed this back in high school/junior college. Just about every single black person backed into their parking spots, the whites or others, not so much. No pun, it does makes sense, just wondering what the relationship is here. FWIW, I now try to back in when I can as I do like the convenience when leaving. Maybe blacks just like convenience, nothing wrong with that.

Easier to back into a spot and it's quicker/safer when leaving.

Safer... Yes

Easier?

It takes the average person 3 attempts from what I have witnessed.

I always considered backing into a parking spot kind of a Calvinistic work ethic barometer. Unless a parking spot is drive-through, there will be some backing up involved either when parking or when leaving the parking spot.

Why put off the work until later? I back in initially upon parking because it means I won't have to back out later, I'm doing the work right now.

Also, as was said here, if everyone is backed in and there is an emergency which requires all vehicles to exit the parking lot, it would go much safer, faster & smoother if all vehicles were facing out of their spots.

I haven't personally ever noticed any correlation between racial backgrounds and preponderance of parking behaviors.

It takes me more than one try to back in to a parking spot about once or twice per year. I see folks who take more than one or two attempts to back out of a parking spot.

You always have to start a Lincoln quote out with his trademark analogy lead-in:

"That reminds me of a farmer I once knew in Springfield who had a mule who wouldn't back into the stall in the evening....."

why drive around with your windows down when it is 95+ outside instead of using the car AC? I am talking a new car that obviously has AC.
Definitely one of my biggest pet peeves when I go somewhere with someone I don't normally go with in their car.

Put the freaking A/C on!!!

I live in north Texas where it routinely hits 100 in the summer, and my father in law will get in the truck, dick around, finally start the truck, back out, start driving through the neighborhood, and like 3-4 minutes later put the A/C on, WTF is that!!!

I think old people have some sort of built-up heat tolerance.

ETA: My grandma complains that she's cold anytime it's below 80.

Exactly the opposite of my experience. This is generally the recommended parking method for all oilfield and petro chemical plants. It is required in many plants in general. I first encountered that in the 90s at a plant in Mont Belvieu, Texas. It was based on a study that showed most parking lot accidents occurred when people were backing out of a parking space. It's also easier when trying to leave in an evacuation scenario.

Que?

I've been doing this since high school. Not black. I drive a truck, always have; they're easier to back in because of the turning radius. This has nothing to do with being AA.
