It too many details at the moment

quote:

A United States Air Force B-52 Stratofortress crashed shortly after takeoff at Edwards Air Force Base at 11:20 a.m. Emergency crews responded to the scene, with the situation "ongoing," according to Edwards Air Force Base. Aerial footage shows a large smoldering burn mark on the land. The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress is a long-range, heavy, jet-powered strategic bomber.

this is why we needed chuck norris to stay around on this planet longer instead of going off to fight on other worlds

My neighbor in Shreveport is an electronic warfare office on a B52 out of BAFB.

Prayers to those families.

BUFF crashes are pretty rare, it has been maybe 10 years since the last one. I think there was only 1 in the whole of the first Gulf War.

Yeah, that’s not good.

Do they still have ejection seats on B-52s?

That doesn't look good. I seem to remember a couple of the ejection seats on those go out the bottom. Not good if so.

Don't know if they've made changes but my Uncle back in the 90s said his ejection seat was out the bottom......

B-52's carry more than their own weight of fuel. It's basically a flying bomb on its own. Not much left when it crashes. Czar 52's airshow crash in '94 was total.

Yeah but the problem is that they're useless at low altitude because they fire from strange places in the aircraft. See the clip above of the airshow crash. Those flares right before impact are ejections, but that low, with that much gas igniting, they either shoot into the ground or can't escape the massive fireball. You can see in this still pic the crewman couldn't even clear the tail this close.
