Incorrect. I was part of total division, non performance based layoffs. Sometimes companies buy products and bite off more than can chew. The products may do well but sometimes they don’t want to invest in the marketing, studies or don’t have the stomach for the space they’re in. I get it but in my industry (medical sales), I’ve watched them lay off presidents club winners from that year. I’ve won multiples and still been part of layoffs.
In medical sales, you are truly just a number.

My company had that back in June and it was terrifying. I survived thankfully but getting in in the morning to have an email saying I was NOT part of the day’s layoffs and saying goodbye to 30% of my coworkers was a bit rattling. It’s happened twice since then too. I’ve managed to be on the hood side each time but it’s definitely stress-inducing. At some point my number will be called.

One thing I’ve learned is no matter how valuable, how well you’re doing, how we are a “work family”…. You’re just a number and they’ll happily chop your head off without blinking an eye.
I would absolutely go without getting paid and without any other compensation before I would lay anyone off. About ten years ago we went 18 months without a job and I kept everyone on and dipped into savings to keep the company afloat.
in almost 20 years we’ve never missed even a single hour of anyone’s pay no matter what. In exchange for that I expect absolute loyalty and 100% commitment to the company...no matter what

First time going through that. Company had a meeting today and said if you didn’t receive a calendar invitation within an hour, you weren’t part of the layoffs.
My company is going to do this in about 4 weeks before the yearly raises come out. In the past they have asked people if they would like a package but was told through the grapevine that wasn't going to be the case this time. I am extremely close to retirement and I don't know if I will get a package. I truly believe they will get rid of the low performers as it sounds. I would easily take a package if it was offered.

"We're all like family here at MegaCorpInc" so look for an email about whether or not you're still part of us.
F off MegaCorpInc with your BS verbal blather. MegaCorpInc lies worse than politicians who do it for a living!!!
If only they tried being honest and flat out stated: "We'll treat you well when you do as we say and things in general are going good. However, when the stuff hits the fan it's every man for themself." At least there would be lots fewer disgruntled ex-employee workplace violence incidents as the expectations would be lower and actually realistic.

I’m sure that sucked either to get laid off or to be a survivor.
Worst case scenario involving someone I know was when they were all laid off, it was discovered they couldn’t actually be laid off for months due to labor rules, and they ended up as dead men walking, trying to find any other job as a landing spot before they were officially laid off and outsourced.

How many 35 year people work where you work???
I see 50 and 60 year olds calling on us all the time that at age 40 were working in a fortune 500 company that made some change or closed some plant or simply laid off a bunch of people. They rarely are making as much as they were before.
