Now overlay crime and litter hotbeds and you can draw your own conclusions

Careful, half your state doesn’t have running water let alone AOL or Netscape.

Or Missouri, which should have a lower average IQ than Kentucky if the thing he is dancing around was a key effect.

If Vermont had the demographics we did, they would be in a similar position.

How come the smartest people live in the worst places?

And CA - with all the tech jobs and excellent universities - there must be some major idiots that are dragging down the avg there. We must be talking IQs of like 75 here.

Montana, Wyoming, Maine, Massachusetts? It seems like smart people live in cold climates but idk if I'd consider those the worst places

Washington, Oregon, Massachussetts, etc. actually have really good public education systems. There does tend to be a correlation between public service investment and IQ (aside from the Mountain West states, which are probably skewed by low population numbers that are easily affected by outliers toward the upper extreme).

But there’s a trade off that as the public service sector gets bigger it starts choking off economic development, so you get states with extremes of economic stagnation. (Although, the smaller cities are still great places to live.)

Iowa ranked as the best state in the US in 2017 or 2018 by US News. Weather aside those states are much nicer places to live than LA or MS as a whole
