it is to a smaller extent. companies will give lower prices to a driver with an insurance history of 5 years compared to a driver with 0 years

Dude has his own agency. I believe him.
Anyone that says not to do this is an idiot.
I have a friend who did this with his kids. Save $ for him, but when his adult children got insurance on their own for the first time, they paid more.
No history, screwed the kids in the long run.

Yeah, what does the guy who runs State Farm know anyway?
Enjoy overpaying.

Yes and also many policies exclude household members not named on the policy.

I tried this maneuver.
I added the kids initially, then at renewal time, I took them off. Progressive let it go for a couple of months and then added them automatically, sending me a bill for $1500. They said that any licensed driver in your household, even if they are a full time student and not living at your house, they have to be listed. I argued, refused to pay. They sent the $1500 to collections, I’m disputing through the collection agency, will likely lose. I won’t pay that shite. I’ll keep disputing and eventually have to dispute with credit bureaus, but if I took them off, had no claims, they don’t live with me, then I’m not paying.

Shop! USAA was 50% higher than GEICO for my teenager. Member for 26 plus years and switched last year.

ill enjoy the fact that my kids won't pay out the arse when they get their own. and will have an easier time starting their own life. cause you know I love my kids and don't want to screw them like you're screwing yours
you dont have to do it but i think its selfish and trashy since majority just bites the bullet

I’ll take the difference I’m saving and put it in a brokerage account that will go 100% towards my kids.
Because I love my kids and they’d rather that cash than me waste it on an unnecessary insurance policy.
Whatever makes you feel better about getting ripped off though.

That is not true at all. Vehicles are insured not people.

No you won’t. That sounds like a great idea, but you won’t do it. No point in lying about it.

And ok that money your kids get will all be used to pay their high insurance premiums. It’s always gonna end up back with insurance.
You’re not saving money my guy, you’re giving your kids a bigger headache when they leave the nest. And what you’re “saving” is roughly $3 a day.
You’re not smart you’re just trashy and cheap. Help your kids out man. Don’t ask plant workers advise about insurance, just like you shouldn’t ask your waiters about your plumbing

Not sure how it works where you are, but we paid about $1K for a beater and insured it for minimum limits only. My son was listed as the primary driver on that one, but could drive the other household vehicles. If you have more drivers than vehicles, the teen will be listed on the vehicle with the highest premium. This has been about 20 years ago…

Correct.
You can buy a extra vehicle before you have a extra driver and it's cheap. Example... 3 cars and 2 drivers.. you can't drive them all.
Kid then gets license and you shut up about it until something happens in an accident, etc.
If you wait and they ask how many drivers and you say three they automatically put them on the third as a primary and rates are a lot higher.
Now the question is how will the insurance company treat you... each scenario is different.
I'd be pretty nervous if my kid got in a wreck that had significant liability and he/she wasn't listed properly.
I wouldn't want to be fighting my own insurance company because I tried to save a few hundred a year.

Just added my 16 yr old son with progressive. Was $100 a month with good grades and drivers ed discount. I felt good about it.
Can’t be in Louisiana. I added my 16 year old a couple years ago, she finished drivers Ed, had a gpa of over 4.0 and I went from paying $100 a month just for me to over $500 a month. Two vehicles total. No claims or wrecks ever.

You are so wrong. It’s much more than $3 a day lol.
I bought my kid a used car, one year old. Didn’t add her since she had just her permit but let her drive it with me for practice for a few months. My insurance jumped from about $100 a month to about $190 a month for two vehicles those few months.
Once she got her license, I added her and it jumped to around $520 a month. So well over $300 a month, or $11 a day, or close to $4k a year. Was paying more in insurance than the one year old car note on a year old car.
And you calling that poster trashy? Extra 4k a year isn’t chump change for some people. Especially with home insurance tripling in Louisiana.

Most of us don’t have the luxury of letting our kids drive 2024 model vehicles. If you can afford a newer model vehicle paid for no note for your kid to drive then the insurance bill shouldn’t be an issue

That’s the point I’m making. I did add her. I paid an extra $300 a month more if I wouldn’t have added her.
I was paying more in insurance than the note of the car. Not an old car either, a one year old car with 12k mikes. And you saying it’s not that much of a difference. It’s a huge difference.

but it could be enough to get you dropped as an insured or have coverage excluded in the event of an accident.
I have heard of more cases lately of denial of coverage for things like this.
Not worth risking your life savings, especially in a suit happy utopia like Louisiana.
