It was assembled from stolen parts. The whole thing was cobbled together and there was no way to make it legal. Thats why it had to be crushed.
Still sucks to see.

It takes a special sort of stupid to spend six figures on a green Dodge SUV.

Sillly-arse posturing.
Cops likely stole the car through CAF.

What’s the big deal. Some mom SUV looking vehicle got crushed.

It has a 700 horsepower engine with supercharger. Car guys want Hellcat blocks for Mopar builds.

That engine was worth $10k to $20k. Additionally, the wheels, tires, brake calipers, exhaust and other parts were worth a nice chunk of change and easy to remove.
This was "government think" at it finest.

auction it and use that money for something
I'd rather it be crushed. You remember the Louisiana State Police and car/cash seizures in the 90s? Forcing the destruction of the car at least removes the incentive to seize vehicles for local PD use/sale.

It also reportedly belonged to someone who has been shot at on more than one occasion. If someone bought it as is, good chance you end up with a drive by and mistaken identity.
You get it wrapped and make it a DARE car to show off at the schools. That way there’s never a problem with mistaken identity. Coukd have donated it to another police force.

So, your plan is to show off a $100k car to kids, and expect them not to want to do enlisted military shite and take out $1500 loans for 84 months to get one? JFC. To afford it, they'll do shady shite, and sling weed, or ask mommy for more money to afford it, etc. Yeah, DARE worked, which is why schools are installing vaping detectors in junior high bathrooms.

Don’t LEOs usually flip those cars to the local drug task force to do shady undercover shite.
