Contrast these anecdotes to the snowflakes we have today. These older generation folks are dying out and I'm worried we won't have people with enough stones to replace them.

yeah that's what these millenials need to straighten em' out: a good holocaust

I would love the opportunity to sit down and talk with a survivor for like 30 minutes and hear their stories

Crazy that this world was that fricked up not that long ago. Say what you want about now but to know the mass executions of that many people is just crazy to me. Bless those people that returned there.

Any who shares a news story about a murder, terrorist attack, etc., and talks about how bad the world is getting is a dumbass. The 21st century (so far) has been a cupcake compared to the atrocities of previous centuries.

It's a shame we cant all do that.

I love these stories. They force you to put your "problems" in perspective. My car needing new tires is a smaller problem than it was this morning.

IDK some of these stories seem far fetched especially when you apply the scientific research thats come out over the years. Its a sad time in history for sure but a lot of these stories have been debunked and some have admitted to making them up.

None the less it was a very tough time in history for many and that generation went through far more than most.

you forgot the part when you need to go frick yourself

edit to say that is exactly the mentality many people had when these camps were first being discovered. but they had an excuse- it was out of sheer disbelief that something so awful was actually happening.

still to this day can't believe what possessed the Nazis (the SS in particular) to treat human beings the way they did

They were strung out on amphetamines given to them by the Govt.

The 20th century was extremely violent. 2 world wars and numerous other genocidal dictators like Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Etc. Plus Vietnam war.

How plausible, for one who was not there, is it for a German medical doctor to pluck out the eyes of 1000's of Jewish children & pin them up on his walls? Or a German engineer in the SS, lining face up, 30 Jewish teenagers in the middle of a road & having panzer tanks after panzer tanks roll over them till they were just wet spots on the road? Both incredibly educated men. How plausible is that, really? Point being, there is nothing "plausible" about what happened in Auschwitz or during the Holocaust. Yet it all happened.

I believe the Holocaust happened. I’ve read a lot of books and articles on it.

Where did you read about the teenagers getting run over?

I would like to read that material.

Hard to believe it could happen in the fairly modern age. While that generation is dying out and will be gone soon - the scale and shock of what they went through would seem impossible for modern times if I didn't know better.

My grandfather grew up in the Depression, fought in WWII, and came of age in a time when we essentially came to brink of ending human civilization as we know it. This isn't an historical footnote from centuries past of people we have no discernable connection to, but something our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents lived through. As you say, the scale and horror are almost incomprehensible.

I shudder at the thought that there was a time when the Nazis almost eradicated a race from existence in Europe, killed off a quarter of the population of Poland, and killed 14% of the Russian population, and that that was just 75 years ago.

This is a sad, somber reminder of the capacity in mankind for profound darkness and inhumanity, and the recency in which we've made that plunge into madness.

Hopefully the survivors and all who bore the scars of this horrific experience ultimately found peace.

No way, that below average intelligence dude totally saw through the historical fog to settle on the truth about the Holocaust and oh by the way it totally doesn't have anything to do with his belief that the Jews control our media and the banks and that Hitler had some good attributes

Nothing like a little Holocaust Minimalization/Revisionism to start off a Monday morning on the OT. Can you do one where you explain away the Khmer Rouge mass exterminations next ? That would be awesome.

fudging the total death numbers

The obvious answer is that it is atrocity propaganda. this is the only genocide proven by the testimony of so many survivors.

You can look up the official numbers at death camps now compared to right after the war and tell this was at least a huge exaggeration if not an out right lie. Auschwitz was originally 4 million jews dead. Now it's at between 900,000-1,000,000, while all other camps have been revised down to the 100-9,999 range. If Germany's goal was to genocide, when the war was as good as lost they would have just bombed those camps and gotten rid of the people. They also wouldn't have done the Haavara agreement to send Jews to places like Palestine. An agreement Britain put a stop to.

If you want to know why so and so was put in camps it's because of who was in charge of the tens of millions that communists were genociding in the Soviet Union.
