Well, you got him there I guess.

You're just too stupid to understand what he was saying. Let it go, move on with your life

I sort of called him out on it. He then ordered some random tequila drink and went outside
You didn't catch him in a gotchya and he meekly ran away.
He thought you were literally too stupid to be worth discussing the idea.

Lol
You definitely didn't "call him out" either

If you are a believer in God then you will understand that is not how it works. I used to be like that. You can and should be a good person, but you must believe and do God's work. Sin is sin in God's eyes. He does not differentiate on how bad you think your sin is. Jesus Christ absolved us from our sins. But, it is not a free pass to continue to sin. You must always ask for forgiveness and try to not sin.

Perhaps you too. Consider your last light as well.

Why didn't you just tell him that an atheists is almost as big an insufferable prick as a Vegan or crossfitter?
Then say how do you know someone is an atheist? Because they fricking tell you 3 times in the first minute you meet them.
Then tell him that being a dick to believers disqualifies him from the "Treating people right" portion of his jackass braying.
He will leave just as he did tonight but he will not approach you anymore with his pontificating. This is a total win for you.
ETA: For the 11 downvoting. Do you think it would have been better for him to just sit there and listen to this douchebag be an insufferable prick? He has this same conversation all day long, every day.
He actively seeks out people that do not want to listen to his bullshite. He regurgitates the same practiced lines with his ear rape. Why should others feel they are obligated to listen to him drone on about anything?

Athiest suffer from the same syndrome as Christians, Muslims, Jews, Republicans and Democrats. It's called "I think I'm smarter than you" syndrome.

you have to respect a guy who is able to live an ethical life without fearing for the afterlife. There are many people (not all) out there who if they found out there is no afterlife, would no longer be "good neighbors"
Better never to be born than suffer everlasting condemnation.

My God, you atheists are so insufferable. How dare you tell him that his belief that you're going to spend eternity in hell is bullshite.

Okay.
I believe in a higher being, but not in the "traditional" way. And I think that all you can do is live your life, treat people right and whatever happens when you die happens. The idea that people will live in eternal hell for certain things, that is a little more complex than it being black or white.
For example, as fricked up as it is, what about a serial killer? Obviously you have to lack certain mental developments that most people have in order to do that. So does one go to hell because they lack that part of the brain?
Another commandment is "you shall not commit adultery". Human being are animals and we are not perfect. shite happens. If someone is in a bad place in their life and they frick someone else not the person they are married to, but then years later they are not the person they were back then, blah blah.. Are they going to hell?
Life is too complicated to have your "afterlife" to be defined by some basic, general rules.

I'm not sure what you don't understand about his comment. The guy doesn't believe in God and will be content if his life is happy and beneficial to others. Your struggle to comprehend his sentiments is where?

I love when people of any denomination (or lack of) talk about how they "know". You don't know shite, you 'believe'.

I have to wonder...is that argument convincing to you when Muhammad makes it about you? If not, why would you think it is convincing when you make it about others?
It fascinates me that people believe that an ultimate higher power of good would condemn good people to eternal damnation simply for not "believing" in a higher power. It's so monumentally nonsensical from the puniest human understanding and intellect much less an omnipotent God.

If the Bible is to be taken literally, you're going to have a lot of executed murders and thugs hanging with you in heaven. If anything, a truly moral atheist would most likely end up in purgatory rather then hell.
