Louisiana is a horrible state. LSU and Saints play on tv every weekend. I don’t need to ever go back.

About 2 years ago. Do it. You won’t regret any part of it.

In 3-5 years a lot can change. Housing will be more expensive, etc. It will only get tougher to move especially if you are financially better off where you are now. Throw in kids and it just becomes unrealistic.

I kick myself weekly for not moving years ago. We thought at the time it would be easier to wait a few years and then move when we had more resources, etc. Yeah, didn’t quite work out that way.

Some of you should do more research on world weather patterns — not climate, that’s quite different from weather.

The USA (actually North America) and our weather are somewhat unique to planet earth. We are bound on three sides by major oceans and a gulf the size of an ocean. Top that with a nearby polar ice cap and you have perfect conditions for a variety of severe weather.

How many tornadoes have you heard of elsewhere? China sometimes, Australia? Name a country that has all of our severe weather. Australia might be the nearest. China gets myriad weather crap.

Europe. Nope. Middle East. Nope. Russia. Nope. They all have their specific problems but the USA has ‘em all. Hell we even have more lightning.

The good old USA is the world’s gem in so many ways. People are literally dying to get here.

As for La., I’ve been here 70 of my 71 years (a year in Vietnam was not a good alternative), and have no desire to leave. I got a good education, made a decent living, found a great wife, raised kids rationally, chose my homesites wisely and have not lived beyond my means. It’s all about the choices we make. And what we make of them.

Just learn to live smarter.

Pacific typhoons seem to be able to get a good bit stronger than our Atlantic hurricanes, but they rarely affect big population centers.

Interesting observations, though.

Been in a typhoon while in Okinawa but it was the size of a normal Gulf hurricane. Biggest difference was that it wasn’t accompanied by tornadoes and then three months later it wasn’t 19 frickin degrees.

Phoenix, West Palm Beach, Nashville, North Carolina...I can name many places that are thriving without having to deal with the shite we do here.

Phoenix: intense heat waves over 110 degrees

West Palm Beach: hurricanes and flooding

Nashville: occasional tornadoes and flooding rains

North Carolina: hurricanes, flash flooding, landslides, ice storms

Move to a North Mississippi town along the North Central edge of the Delta in the hills. Basically anywhere along I-55 between Memphis and Winona.

We have a weather bubble. Tornadoes usually drop to our East and South of us. My theory is the sudden change in elevation from the Delta to the hills temporarily alters the momentum, winds, and rotation of thunderstorms...and the storms regain their spin/velocity once the elevation levels out to our East.

Also there are few tornadoes in the Appalachians and there really arent any other hazards there other than crazy hillbillies.
