She has been my best friend since the day we met. We haven’t left each other’s side since our first date. We are a wee bit codependent so I assume that means she is “the one” for me

It's been over a decade and I'm still not sure she's "the one."

Is there ever "the one" or do you just love the one you're with?

So many typical OTL answers.

It was when I learned about her earning potential. Nothing wrong with a woman that can earn the same as a man.

after talking to her for about 11 hours on the phone one night, and realized that we had exactly the same ideas of relationships, the same likes and the same dislikes. after we hung up that morning we both knew it was meant to be.

even had a stint where we didn't get to talk for about 2 months - but once we spoke again, it was like no time had gone by.

she came and spent a week with me, and the next Feb she moved in and we haven't looked back since.

October will be 5 years married - best decision of my life by far.

I don’t really believe in “the one”. You can be happy with many people. You make the best of what you’ve chosen.

Totally agree. It's all about timing. There is no "one" who completes another. Love is a choice. We complete ourselves.

I hadn't really thought about asking my (wife now) to marry me until I found the place I was going to ask her. Sounds strange, but a buddy and I were exploring a rock outcropping on the California coast outside of Santa Cruz. We climbed up the east side about 40 feet and stopped to watch the seals play around in the waves. I randomly walked a ledge to the ocean facing side and there was a large room carved out of it, obviously for a primitive light house fire or some light source. Somehow I just knew at that point I needed to buy a ring and get her up there. I didn't even tell my friend the room was there.

Took about 8 months to buy a diamond, have a designer ring made, take off work and plan the day. There was one dodgy place where you had to sprint and climb up a rock face before the next wave set came in...but it all worked out.

We had moved from LSU to San Francisco a year or so before, so we were already 'one'...I just had to make it official on some grand fashion. In a place that beautiful it was a surprisingly tough decision.

You have to be compatible. I've tried to make it work before with terrible results. This just works, I put her first at all times.

This is also true. The whole “don’t cling to a mistake just because you spent a lot of time making it” deal.

I was smitten from date #1. She was a bit more guarded than I was, but it's all worked out. Our relationship is very easy.. we just clicked from day one. We don't argue about anything, but we can talk about everything. If one of us is upset about something, we generally wait until we've calmed down to talk about it rationally.

I never had a 'she is the one' moment, but I never questioned that she was, either.
