My husband’s grandparents quit trawling in the 80s bc their kids didn’t want to do it - no meth involved

And fuel/supplies/grocery/repair prices. It costs a couple grand just to leave the dock in a trawl boat today, and that’s if you don’t break anything.

i would also say that hurricane damage and the price to build back plus the cost of insurance had a lot to do with it also. There are many factors that played into this not just one.

More and more people are "moving up the bayou" every year.

Plus, a lot of the "cash" business is what hurts shrimpers. They claim they make money but when something happens and the Governet tries to help them with assistance they can't prove anything because most of the money is cash based untaxed.

Are they catching them here and sending them overseas to peel?

I can't ever rememeber a time where I purchased peeled shrimp. I get them fresh from the shrimp lots.
