It's curious to me this doesn't happen more often honestly

quote:

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – At least one person is dead after a crane collapsed onto the Elan City Lights apartment complex near Good Latimer and Live Oak in Downtown Dallas, officials confirmed. Heavy winds from severe storms moved through the area Sunday afternoon.

Two people are also in critical condition, three in serious condition and one person was already released from the hospital, Dallas Fire-Rescue said.

The view from Chopper 11 shows the extent of the damage caused by the crane collapse. Damage to units and vehicles could be seen.

That is some cheap quality construction.

Most construction cranes are in densely populated areas. Most also don't come crashing down. Perhaps it was not unlocked so it wasn't able to rotate in the wind.

This is a direct result of not prosecuting thefts. DFW is getting way too dangerous

What’s your expectation of construction that can hold up to freaking tower crane collapsing on to it.

Pretty crazy storm that popped out of nowhere. We were driving home having to dodge all sorts of patio furniture and barriers coming undone and blowing all over the place.

It looks like I may be out of power until well into tomorrow.

ETA: fortunately just got power back.

Tornados have been reported in the DFW.

How quickly can you disassemble one of those?

What protocol do contractors take in high wind situations involving cranes?

Taking them down seems to be a multi day project, from what I’ve seen.

Other than unlocking them, I’m not sure what else they could do.

It takes about a day and a half to completely dismantle a tower crane.

Other than leaving it unlocked so it can move freely with the wind, there’s nothing else to do.

In my 7 years here, I haven’t ever seen this much debris littering the roadways. Tons of trees knocked down and a bit of hail as well. Power out across the metroplex. Sad news with the crane...I’m not surprised as we were driving through south Dallas when it hit. We took shelter under an overpass for 20 minutes. Storms passed through quickly thankfully.
