As long as he does his job why should Anyone care?

At least he is employed, unlike a lot of general studies college graduates, women studies college graduates, and basket weaving college graduates who are looking for that perfect job which will never happen.

What part of his job requires him to be able to read?

Grocery stores employ a lot of special needs folks, and should be commended for doing so.

Say hey to your mom if you’re there while the janitors are working.

I agree!

All the Winn-Dixies I’ve shopped at have a special needs employee helping with bagging and shopping carts. They are always enthusiastic hard workers.

And they're pretty good in the sack, too.

The best deli men don't know how to read, they're too committed to the deli to waste all that time book learning.

In general yes, but...

Does his inability to read keep him from performing his job?

If it does, then I expect it. If he's slicing meat and can tell the roast beef from the capicola, I'm probably okay with it.
