So long as we don't nuke each other into an oblivion, I find it inevitable.
But is that the desire of life itself? Any life, not just human life? To consolidate to a single persistent and efficient entity? Think about the implications of that.

I find it equally exciting and terrifying. I know you simply find it horrifying, but the prospect of evolving to a higher plane of existence is intriguing to me. Granted, I have the concern that even if things work out, we could turn into the Borg.
Read closer, I choose my words carefully. I actually don't find the Singularity horrifying for very clear reasons. I found certain Singularities terrifying.

The Singularity will be one of two things: the best thing that has ever happened to the world or the worst. Little in between.
Hmmm...a direct dichotomy between two planes of existence....where have I heard that before...

I have thought about this, and I'm honestly not sure at all. It is something that takes away from our identity but also makes us into something more. It is a question that has troubled me.

Gotcha

The Matrix. I have written parts of a screenplay on the Singularity, but almost all of it takes place within where a girl who is mortally wounded is uploaded permanently into it against her will. Imagine Pan's Labyrinth meets Spirited Away meets Children of Men. That's what I was thinking.

I mean, it depends on how you look at it of course. How important is efficiency in the grand scheme of things. Minimal Input yielding a maximum output?

Depends on how you look at it. And we considering thousands or millions of years here, not 100 in terms of "the end game," with the Singularity.
I believe in another type of purpose, but that's me.

At the end of the movie, all he really wanted was Rosebud.

We know so little about the universe, yet we assume life on earth is the basis for life elsewhere, from things like our basic needs (water, certain temperatures) to abstract concepts (motivations). I get that we are working with the only information available, but it seems awfully unwise to assume that they information is enough to make strong statements.
That's sort of my point. You're speaking in absolutes about what this particular set of species requires. That's all based on earth principles.

We are belligerent above all else.
This is true, and we are probably stupid enough to pick a fight with a culture with much greater technology.
On the other hand, perhaps the existing alien civilizations advanced as far as they have by not being bellicose. War will eventually destroy the earth unless we are smart enough to avoid it. Maybe these aliens have learned that lesson.

When in our history has a lesser civilization been stupid enough to engage a more advanced one? Normally the advanced civilization is the aggressor.
I know it's the norm in these threads to shite all over the human race and talk about how dumb we are but think about what you're saying before making these drastic claims about how barbaric we are.

Yeah, I forgot how the Native Americans first sailed over to Europe and started pillaging, so the Europeans went to America for retribution and not for more land and resources. Read a history book for god's sake.

I think if it wasn't alien intervention assisting humanity with advanced achievements we are discovering today, then our ancestors were immeasurably more advanced and intelligent than we are today - and by comparison, we are barbaric.

Hey!!! I already corrected her on that. Be fricking nice.

Ugh...... We've already got one person spouting this kinda shite and she's doing a fine job. One is cute but two of y'all might be too many. If you wanna argue coast to coast shite then go find beejon and discuss the best sword techniques for demon fighting.

Must have.
Sorry, I am one of those people. There's just too many examples of ancient architecture, drawings, etc., that lead logically to some kind of intervention taking place at some time or times in history.

NO!! THERE'S frickING NOT!!! And unless you're a twenty year old psych major who just discovered the history channel, then you should be able to tell what is actual science and archeology and what is tabloid bullshite.
I rate the history channel up there with the Kardashians and Dan Brown as some of the most anti-educational bullshite destroying this country.
Now you've got me all pissed off on a Friday. frick!!

What if the aliens brought religion? Or were fanatics like in HALO?
Or better yet, what if they wore crucifixes and knew of Jesues?

No one reads anything I say with any context, or with reference to my other posts. I know that white explorers have a horrid history of slaughtering defenseless cultures with their superior technology.
But, if you read my other post, I assume that if alien cultures have gotten as far as they have, tey had to learn how not to destroy each other.

No matter how this is 10000% logical, the deniers will always say "this didn't happen" because they don't want to believe that we are not the only intelligent life in the universe (which is an absurdity itself).

Yeah, it was called agriculture.
