A couple of things...

The universe has been around for billions of years - we've only been actively listening for about 50 yrs of that timeframe. The incredible likelihood is that any communications (given the distances) either passed by millions or billions of years ago, or aren't here yet. Furthermore, the communication would need to come in a format that we're listening for.

Hell, we may be getting "communications" ever day and not even realizing it.

I don't think I'll ever be able to fathom how we can see or know anything about something that is about 234 trillion miles away. It just doesn't make any sense.

You can learn plenty just by watching them, you don't have to physically go there.

For example, gravity works there just like it does everywhere else, so you can learn a lot about how much the planets weigh by observing the orbits. You can also learn about what makes up the atmosphere by seeing what wavelengths are missing (a spectrogram) from their light.

The fact that they're so far away can make things more difficult but current instruments can do this and more.

the math doesn't say it's impossible to travel that far in a theoretical persons lifetime.

True. But it's far more likely that Kate Upton and Olivia Munn will be waiting together for me to get home from work tonight.

In other words, it ain't happening.

Maybe aliens find us too retarded to interact with and just observe us from a distance for now

In all seriousness, I don't like saying things will never happen. It was barely over 100 years ago that the wright brothers started flying, and people said it was impossible. 100 years before that Napoleon laughed at Fulton's self propelled steam ships saying

You would make a ship sail against the wind and currents by lighting a bonfire under her decks? I pray you excuse me. I have no time to listen to such nonsense.

There has to be life somewhere in some other galaxy. There is probably another sun in that galaxy far far away.
We will never know and it is too far to get there.

I wonder how primitive they are! Maybe a planet was just formed and that planet is in the caveman era with dinosaurs. Who knows!

Has anyone asked Larry King yet? He's the only one old enough to remember the Big Bang.

I don't believe in Astronomy, let me guess, these 7 planets are aligned a certain way and it's going to tell me about my love life?

These so-called scientists need to grow up and stop believing in nonsense

In relation to human capability, this star system is unreachable by humans or any type of probe sent by us. The fastest object put in space by humans goes about 60,000 miles per hour. It would take a beam of light 39 years traveling at 186,000 miles per second to reach these planets.

Translation - we can't get there from here. Do the math.

Hopefully future technology will change that. However we could send a direct message to this star system that would take 39 years to get there. With another forty for a return message potentially. It's an exciting prospect for sure. And the fact that we have found this many planets means there are more planets in the galaxy than what we used to believe.

So what do we need to travel faster? I don't think we're getting there with more horsepower and fuel.

We can't travel light speed. We need to find a way to warp time and space, and "jump" through it. Don't need to go light speed if you can do that.
