FYI

Traveling in the current space shuttle it would take us 37,200 years to go ONE light year.

39 light years x 37,200 miles per light year = 1,450,800 years. back to work...better off hoping to hit the powerball

They didn't mention that its atmosphere is made almost entirely of rabid weasels.

I'll bet they're gonna ask for more funding and announce the weasel atmosphere after they get it. Never trust a nerd or a government, and NASA is both.

Why?

Has anyone noticed that whenever they find "earth like" planets that our planet is much more bluer than the blue planets they find.

The great thing about that post is that it's really not funny, and it's kind of annoying...unless it works, then it is funny. And he got 2 bites on it.

Respeck!

Well that's because climate change melted all the ice caps and we are doomed

Hey! I'm the assclown here, I think I'm more of an authority on what's funny.

No. The space shuttle (which isn't current anymore btw) cannot leave Earth orbit at all.

Voyager 1 is going more that twice that speed, and has no actual propulsion right now, so, yeah, time to rework some numbers!

Problem is that they're all probably tidally locked.

I don't think I'll ever be able to fathom how we can see or know anything about something that is about 234 trillion miles away. It just doesn't make any sense.

You do know those aren't actual pictures of the planets, yes? (except earth)

Agree to disagree, I think it's still funny and poignant without the bites. I think he was making fun of people who have very strong opinions on things they don't know shite about, which is kinda common especially on the internet.

I hope I didn't touch a nerve as I know that's your specialty.

But in fairness, when I said it was not funny and a little annoying, I was really talking about his specific post. It wasn't that original IMO. Your stuff is fantastic, Ken M-esque.

I'm a big fan of your work!!!

This is pretty big news and 39 light years really isn't that far away in relation to most of space

In relation to human capability, this star system is unreachable by humans or any type of probe sent by us. The fastest object put in space by humans goes about 60,000 miles per hour. It would take a beam of light 39 years traveling at 186,000 miles per second to reach these planets.

Translation - we can't get there from here. Do the math.
