After living for nearly a year aboard the International Space Station, NASA astronaut Scott Kelly says he's two inches taller than his identical twin brother Mark, NBC News reported.
Kelly reports that he that overall he "feels pretty good," but now begins what may be a year-long project to monitor his health. One unique advantage he provides to NASA's doctors is his identical twin brother, Mark, a former NASA astronaut who spent last year with his feet planted on terra firma.

Title could have been "astronaut gains 2 inches", missed OT title mislead opportunity.

about being taller?

This is more about space exposure and less about the man

Not like all the trump threads talking about the man, I'm bringing up an issue. Can we safely sleep upside down?

OT baws are like flies to shite on any thread with "inches" and any form of the word "increase" in the title.

Oh, wait

How long will it take for him to return to his pre-flight size?

I'm no biologist or astronaut, but I'm pretty sure the reason he grew two inches is because the lack of gravity allowed his spinal cord to decompress. It's not like living in space made him magically grow two inches.

I can't believe the news story doesn't mention this...maybe they just figure people will put 2 and 2 together?

I'm not sure, I'm thinking without prolonged compression from gravity, the "space" in between the vertebrae gets filled, and probably could add permanent growth.

Like a broken bone that heals crooked and then is always crooked, without compression the body healed taller.

I don't think this is true. The space between your vertebrae, from what I've been told, is made up of disks that are a jelly like substance. After not being inter constant gravitational forces, those disks expand. After being under gravitational forces for a while, they will compress again. I'm no doctor though.

I don't know. He's had a year of rest on that spine. I'd be feeling pretty good if I'd had that.
