I understand why sexual abuse is rampant in religious settings, especially Catholicism. As horrible as it is it at least makes sense why something like that would attract pedophiles (similar to teachers). What I don’t understand is why once you know someone is diddling kids, you would ignore it, accept it, or even cover it up. Like that makes no logical sense. Even if you argued that the church doesn’t want to lose an already depleted source of priests, they’re fricking child molesters/monsters. Nothing good can come from helping to enable more of that behavior. More kids get abused, and once the story eventually comes out more lives are ruined and the church looks that much worse. So it makes sense to stop it as soon as it is discovered and try to move on more positively.
As a lifelong catholic (though I don’t really practice it much these days), that’s something I’ve never understood. And every time shite like this comes out it just makes the church/religion look even more stupid, evil, etc. It’s stupid.
Well said.

It’s quite common for organizations to cover up misdeeds that hurt their bottom line. It’s the only way I can rationally think about it..
how many companies have covered up chemical spills, fraud, product risks..
How many organizations.. Boy Scouts, us military, government at all levels.. it’s human nature

Every large scale organization dealing with kids is going to have pedos. Every church has had pedos. Yes the Catholic Church fricked all this up for ions and deserve scorn and much worse but the historical institution and teachings are what people support
Probably fair points, but I doubt any of those organizations or other churches wielded the power and resources of the Catholic Church— especially in that era.
The more disturbing thing to me is the two faced approach by the church to simultaneously condemn the actions and make a call to prayer from the figureheads, yet quietly use their resources to quash any legislation that would shed more light on their misdeeds and hold them financially culpable for the complicity they had in these crimes. Own what you did. Ask for forgiveness. Make amends. Sunlight is the best disinfectant.
And how interesting is it that so many names were redacted from this report? Maybe some of those names belong to influential leaders of the present day church?

I wonder if they will quit going to church like the spectacle they are making off a limited edition can of white trash beer.

When is the media gonna work as hard doing stories on pedophiles in Hollywood, DC and Muslim communities as they do on the Catholic Church? The church has a putrid history but they dont have a monopoly on it.

Pretty much this.
Then explain all the Protestant ministers that have done this as well, several Protestant ministers that have molested children along with their wives

I said they had a putrid history
But plenty more pedophiles to go after

In 1987 at St. Louis parish in Clarksville, one victim was made to wear a loincloth while Mike poked him with a heated pin and forced him to run laps around the parish gym as Mike lashed him with a bullwhip. Mike tied the victim up, suspending him from a basketball backboard, and whipped him 150 times, according to a diary entry from the victim.
I mean there’s no way this boy had parents involved in his life if they were getting away with this kind of sadistic shite.

shite there’s a story out there that heavily implies that billionaire gayle benson is personally calling accusers and negotiating for their silence against nola clergymen lmao

The Maryland Catholic Conference, which represents all three dioceses operating in the state, opposed the bill at every turn and is expected to challenge it in court.
Because without a statute of limitations, they’re almost certainly going to end up paying out of the arse for it in lawsuits and more.
frick them. I know a couple of the kids (now adults) that were molested by Priests here in Louisville and it was covered up until a few years ago. I have no sympathy.

I’m not denying that there are molestors in the Catholic Church - but I know of people just looking for money - and I know of people that were molested by Protestant ministers that were paid to keep quiet as well
None of the churches are innocent

If you’ve ever visited a seminary this is not shocking at all. The weird vibes are physically troubling.

I will never return to the Catholic church.
Indefensible.
Indefensible.
