Its not like you cant look up quickly what anything roughly costs. I am not sure why they would press so hard.

I dont think its tacky to ask for a roundabout number. maybe they liked the car and would consider buying one. However it is tacky to press the issue so much. Its also kind of tacky to withhold general info like that

Can’t they just look up KBB and get a general idea of what you paid?

Why do that when you can literally ask the person that you are already talking to?

sorry, I thought I remember you starting threads about living on your wife's family land

must have been someone else.

You’re remembering the time when I asked for advice regarding legally splitting the property and if I could force a neighboring landowner to allow me to access it from his side since it would’ve been landlocked. The idea was offered to us by the in laws so we pursued it for a few weeks until it became evident that it was gonna be damn near impossible so we just dropped it. That was probably four years ago if I remember correctly.

People are too fricking to stupid to realize that discussing wages and prices openly are the only way to quit getting fricked on both ends.

That said, if somebodys just asking cause they want to know how much blowable money they have, frick em

It depends - used car, maybe someone wants to know what kind of deal they could get.

I don't really mind telling family finance stuff though.

Told my parents it was $43k. A week later my dad is insulting me for being stupid and buying a $60k car during a discussion about retirement savings.

Moral of the story.... don’t tell family cause they won’t remember anyway.

You seem like a guy that has to ask his wife for permission to add cheese to his burger.

Could that have asked the question in a way that lacked tact? Yes, but they can also just look at what you paid online.

You could have answered a million ways that didn't involve you being a petty little pussy

I ask all the time. If you have no issues over paying, just say the number.

It's only acceptable if the question is immediately followed by the phrase, "If you don't mind me asking..."

Tacky, unless it’s a supercar.

But no way in hell with a username like that, you’d ever be able to buy a supercar.

I thought the general rule was to lie about it?

Wife: how much was power tool?
Husband: (rounding down based on depreciation, not acquisition cost) about $150 (was $300)

Tell them a made up number, a deal their weak negotiating skills will ever achieve. Holy crap? That’s $10k under sticker!

Lie

Just make something up to keep the peace with your fellow cretins.

Literally tell them $35,000.00 and chortle.

We just paid $25k out the door(after trade-in, fees, etc.) for a 2020 SUV a couple of weeks ago.

I haven't told anyone, and nobody has asked, but I'm telling you guys.

You are snooping into the value of a stock from the same people that asked you how much you paid for a car.

So just to be clear, you think you are privy to know the value of stock from your in laws and think you are entitled to their inheritance. But they can't ask you how much you paid for a fricking Civc.

And you brag about making $3k on the internet

Got it. Lol bro
