I just got my biopsy back and have CLL, a chronic form of lukemia. Not a religious guy but I'll take all the positive energy from my family which includes prayer.

I started having irritable issues after the 2nd month of my Afghanistan deployment and it slowly got worse. I even told a pa during my post health assessment after deploying and he couldn't give me answer.

It was until 3 years later I got an appt with the va for a colonoscopy; due to my family history of colon cancer and symptoms I got on and I'm at 33.

Before the biopsy results came back the dr thought I had ulcerative colitis. I'm assuming I just have ibs. I wish I had better answers but I know it's not cancer.

I'm just saying to please have the best outlook.

Tell him to be prepared because the electrolyte solution that he drinks the night before is the nastiest thing ever.

Please let him have somebody bring him because he will want the sedation. I would have hurt had it not been for that.

Sorry to hear, Roger.

My dad has been dealing with lung cancer for 14 months now and the Dr said he's lived longer than most (average is like 6 to 9 months) with what he has so I am grateful for the extra time but I also take it as his time left is short. His cancer is incurable and it's just a matter of when. I wouldn't wish for anyone to go through the roller coaster we have been through the past 14 months.

It's OK, this diagnosis isn't necessarily a death sentence but I will have it my entire life. It's a slow growing cancer, I might live another 15 years.

I'll damn sure enjoy the days I have left.

Damn dude, thoughts and prayers. The waiting to find out might be the hardest part, all you can do is be a good brother be supportive. If y'all are anything like me and mine, you'll call him a pussy and have a beer. But good luck and like I said, thoughts and prayers.

I have an uncle (one who has put several players into LSU and on other Louisiana college teams) that has a rare blood cancer along the lines of leukemia though the name escapes me. He has been going to MD Anderson and they have done a lot for him including stem cell treatments. He has received treatments he couldn't get anywhere else and they told him they couldn't cure him but they could keep him alive.

I have to take my dad back to MD Anderson Thursday and Friday for some updated scans to see if the current chemo is keeping it at bay for a little longer and if not then they are going to move him to some clinical trials. Again, that is something you won't get just anywhere.

It's worth it to get a second opinion and seek out a research hospital like MD Anderson, because without doing so, my dad and my uncle both wouldn't have lasted as long as they have. Just keep it in mind and don't wait too long.

My brother started having issues after his afghan deployment as well. It chokes me up so much because a week before I left to Afghanistan our family got together and he was hurting so bad. I remember him coming in the room in the middle of the night asking if he could be taken to the ER, he just dropped to his knees and puked. He couldn't even stand. But after he puked he changed his mind about going to the ER, he said he was better, well it happened again a day after I left and he was finally taken to the hospital. I couldn't be there with him. I can only imagine the pain he was in during that time and now for the past few months. This guy means the world to me.

Roger, from what I've gathered you have done amazing things and lived a life 99% of people will never experience. I'll say a prayer for you. I know it's not all about the prayers, but it helps to know people care and are willing to the comfort those in need.

Also I'll say a prayer for your old man stout, as I can only imagine what you've been dealing with. It sucks that the people we believe to be immortal have to go through stuff like this. I wish it was me, I'm not nearly the man my brother is.

Yeah this is where I am. It's chronic so I'll have to live with it . They actually have a pill that works with early stages but stem cell transplants are somewhere in my future. Just got the results a couple hours ago and flying home tonight.

Years of hard living probably didn't help

All of the Doctors are amazed he's made it this far but he has fought like hell. He was actually mowing his yard yesterday and gets angry when me or my brother try to help because he wants to do as much as he can while he can. There are days he can't do a lot and the depression sets in. I can't stand to see him like that and do my best to get him out of his house and do something to take his mind off of it. Being idle for too long makes his depression worse. Tomorrow, if he's feeling up to it, we are going to take his boat out. He bought it last year a week or two before being diagnosed and we have never even put it in the water.

The best thing I can tell you is to not get too emotional around him and stay positive. He will need that from you and you have to help push him to fight but respect his wishes if he opts at any time to stop treatments in exchange for quality of life like some people do.

Thank you. I'm satisfied with unorthodox choices. I've become a little too entrenched lately and feel I've sold out a bit. I'll definitely reexamine my future over the next few days.

If he's discharging red blood then it's from his lower intestine - which could be something as simple as anal fissures or internal hemorrhoids.

Hate to hear that you are having some issues, too man. One time I had an aunt who had just found out that she had terminal cancer. I remember her telling me about it and saying something like "life is just full of complications...you just have to adjust your plans.and keep moving forward". I will always remember that.

Yeah, that's how I feel but I've always enjoyed the unpredictable nature of life, this is just on a scale I'm not sure I was prepared for. But I don't think anyone is. If it's a short journey, I've enjoyed every single day
