For the most part yes. Chinese and Japanese probably the toughest to differentiate to me. When I was in Fiji a few years ago met a ton of both. I’ve had some Korean and Vietnamese friends and they don’t look very similar at all to me.

Koreans -- larger heads and taller; rounder eyes
Japenese -- small features and no one over 5'10"; very slanted eyes
Vietnamese -- Just overall more attractive; the Asians who have acne seem to be from here (WHY? Dunno)
Chinese -- seem to be heavier in weight, but for me, hard to tell from Korea -- basically, they are one messed up relationship anyway.
Maylasia -- Skin is more like Indian's or even Middle East...heavy Muslim population for a country that far east anyway.
Taiwan-- Just like China, obviously
Singapore -- Cleaner and softer features; small in stature
The Philippines -- The hottest girls by far as they are much more body-typed like westerners are used to. Beautiful eyes (rounder than most) and ageless.
Indonesia -- A perfect mix of India and China
Thailand -- Much like Indonesia

Koreans are often easy to pick out. Many of the guys have a sort of boy band semi bowl cut that is pretty distinguishable. Big oversized sweaters. They are pretty easy to spot out in Los Angeles at least.
Otherwise it’s not as easy as you think to tel them apart. Especially since China is so big and the people can look very different.

When I went out in BR or NOLA 10-20 years ago, I always knew who the Vietnamese girls/guys were because they did not allow any outsiders in their cliques and they were dressed somewhere between Gardere Lane and the Gap. They refused to hook-up with any westerners, for the most part.

Yeah, same. The Chinese tend to be larger, more sturdy, and rounder faces, but they’re the ones I hesitate on compared to the others.

I think any fairly observant person could do a pretty good job grouping individuals into broad ethnic categories, particularly those of fairly homogeneous parentage.
For example, I searched for images of the Governors of the central banks of each of the four nations mentioned in the OP, assuming that such an important position would be held by mature men with deep ethnic roots in their native lands. I was not surprised by the results:
I believe the majority of the OT posters who click on this thread could correctly match the banker with his nationality. I know I would have.
