The Ascension Parish Department of Public Works is using pumps on Alligator Bayou Road to move floodwaters from the Spanish Lake and Bluff Swamp basin into Bayou Manchac. Officials said they have three pumps operating now and each can move 20,000 gallons of water per minute.

Curious, what do the SWB pumps in Nola do? These pumps are doing 60k gallons a minute.

We certainly can't have the homeowners and developers responsible for this face any consequences:

I don't understand them not letting water flow naturally into the watershed, surprised some BAW hasn't compromised the dam yet.

Each pump station has their own capacity, but the East Bank of Orleans Parish has a capacity of about 21 million gallons per minute, give or take their shitty motors actually starting.

No you idiot. They are pumping to the north side which is currently higher than the south side. If it wasn't they'd pull the dams.

We certainly need a regional plan, but right now each parish is on their own. EBR is handicapped though, Broome really doesn’t care if SG, Central or Zachary floods. In fact she is probably glad when it goes because she gets more federal dollars to pass around.

Which is a huge problem, because each parish is in control of their own development and planning. It's only going to get worse until all of these politicians figure out how to work with each other.

Badly. The only options at this point are to start blowing up houses and cutting out dirt, or pumping lots of water to the MS River. There is no painless solution at this point.

You can build in the swamp as long as you build high enough

Does the Aqua Dam say "Iberville Parish" on it?

Looks like it does. And I'm assuming they are pushing water back over it into Manchac, but The Advocate has been catastrophically wrong on their articles and photo descriptions before. In fact they are wrong more often than they are right.

Build houses above the fricking road, and you have much fewer issues.

How many pumps are they running to pump 21 million gallons per minute?
