When I was at Noranda everyone used to talk about almatus re-opening? I guess that did not come to fruition ?

It's not a carcinogen. There used to be huge stockpiles of it off of Sherwood Blvd for many many years. It's the ore for alumina which is used to make aluminum.

I will give you the honor of going back there and taking a few deep breaths.

However, just because one hasn't contracted cancer at 50 years old, doesn't necessarily mean that they will or won't (at 60-80) decades later in life.

Yes. But just living your life decade after decade increases the chance. So don't worry about bauxite or talcum powder or hot sauce.

When I saw those developments spring up around those ponds I knew what was coming soon

Even if not a carcinogen probably still not good for the lungs.

So because you'll end up dying of something on a long enough timeline, carelessly expose yourself to things that will shorten that timeline, because... reasons? This is a really weird hill to die on

No studies on people who aren’t inside of bauxite mines, and it is extremely rare, so almost certainly nothing to worry about.

Idiots keep building next to industrial areas and then bitch. Like the ones who built next to the landfill in the Prairieville area and then complained about the smell 15 years ago.

To be fair in most places this would not be an option and developers would not get permission to even lay out plots, also you can bet no one was shown a house on a day the wind was blowing in that direction.

I get personal responsibility and will never buy a house that floods but still manage compassion for flood victims.

LA keeps having most of these issues due to one thing, endemic corruption.

European Respiratory Journal: “ Conclusion: These data suggest possible carcinogenic effects of inhaled dust in the professional environment containing bauxite, and require further research“

No that's a cancer hill. Protect your skin or you will get melanoma. Don't drink too much liquor or you will get esophageal cancer. When you get into your 50s or 60s watch out for that pancreatic or stomach stuff. And for 50 plus males, get your prostate checked. Do the smart things. Otherwise try live your life mostly without fear.
Too bad about all that bauxite stuff.

No, you are thinking of the gypsum pond. OP is showing the Almatis bauxite mud lake that’s off of hwy 22 in Darrow/Sorrento. Not far from Pelican Point.

Is the gypsum biproduct from making ammonia at nutrien?

Great, so let's all light a Marlboro and snort some Asbestos. We are all going to live a long life but will eventually die from the Bic C anyway.

I have no idea if it's a carcinogen or not, but I'd bet the bank it isn't healthy for you but billed as completely safe by folks that really have no idea

I have an doctor MD friend ho says they have fixed so many things ( heart, kidneys, diabeetus, etc) that cancer is the only reliable killer they have left, other than gunshots, which aren’t all that reliable according to him.
