there are plenty of countries that use blended systems... government paid care, upto a percentage or amount, and private insurance to supplement... South Korea, who consistently ranks as the best healthcare system in the world, for example...
the solution doesn't have to be binary... it doesn't have to be one versus the other... there's no reason we can't implement and fund both... we are the richest, most well equipped country on the fricking planet... it's just a question of priorities, and well, at that, we fricking suck

you can thank BOTH parties for that chief... and realistically, those deficits are essentially meaningless... everyone talks about the "bill coming due"... bullshite... there ain't a country on earth that would be able to demand payment on our debt... it would sink their own economy if we went tits up... basically, the US is too big to fail, at this point, and everyone other than 24 hour news channels and their fervent believers, know this

We already have medicare and medicaid for the old and for the poor, and for the children. We have a system of open market subsidized healthcare exchange for people in the middle, aka obamacare, and everyone else has private insurance through an employer or family member's employer. So we already have a really blended system between gov and private. Nothing about any of this is binary or a lack of priority.

Romney Care
you wanted an example of it working, and this is the best you can come up with? a back handed, piss poor dig at a successful piece of legislation, only bc you don't like the person ultimately in charge at the time of the legislation?
careful, your bias is showing

I haven't brought up parties or politics in this thread. Calm yourself.

I can go toe to toe with you on this, but not in this thread. This one is about healthcare. Start a topic on the poli board and let's go. Don't derail this one.

The bills have to be paid.
Soon the cost to fund our $31 trillion in debt will be more than the cost to fund our military.
Continue this and eventually it will eat us alive.

It took me a few minutes to deconstruct what in the actual frick you were talking about, but I think I finally figured it out.
You think I was praising Romney for his Romney Care bill in MA when he was governor. And when Obama did it at the national level, I disapprove. Therefore, I didn't like the law because because Obama is half-black but supported Romney's version because he is lily white.
In fact, I was mocking Romney. Most people on the right disdain Romney.
Thanks for starting the conversation. But this has nothing to do with race. In fact, the whole healthcare issue isn't political at all for most people. It's a system with problems and everyone wants them fixed. We have different ideas about how to fix. "Your bias is showing" is a really low-grade comment.

More inefficient than the current system? Hard to believe. Public healthcare works in literally every other developed country in the world and is far more efficient than the system we have where we pay more per person to have a single medical event guarantee to ruin your and your family's life.

From disability, sure. But from hospital bills? Wrong. Just don't pay them. Medical bills can't be put on liens to your property and don't score on your credit report the same as other debts. Stop getting your reality from Huffington Post.

and this is EXACTLY why healthcare costs skyrocket in this country! you are arse fricking backwards and are too fricking stupid to see it....

If you can get your parents to go with traditional Medicare with a supplement
If you get real sick Medicare without a supplement, through a private carrier, is worthless. Medicare is not going to cover prescriptions either. You have to get a Part D plan through private carrier. Its obvious that a lot of people have limited knowledge about how Medicare works and what it covers.

But you said families are going broke and living on the streets and having their lives ruined by medical bills.
And then you say damn right, you don't have to pay them.
So which is it?

no, again like i said it was backhanded... it shows you don't like him, and even though what he did as a positive and worked, you'd rather take a dig than give credit... again, your bias is showing...

that was QUITE clear, chief...

oh, i'm quite aware, as is anyone with a functioning brain...

the frick i did, asshat... go ahead and quote anything i've said that even remotely comes close to this hyperbole, and share with the class... we'll wait...

And then you say damn right, you don't have to pay them.
at this point, i seriously don't have a clue as to what the frick you are talking about... you've lost the plot, bro....

Glad that worked out for your dad, but go talk to anyone who works in hospital, doctor, medical equipment, or clinical billing. Again, there is a reason more and more docs are telling patients that they are no longer accepting new medicare patients.
It's all about profit. Health care doesn't have a damned thing to do with it.

quote:It sounds correct but is it actually? I'm just asking.
you REALLY don't see how people taking care of themselves decreases overall healthcare expenditure?
quote:If people take poor care of themselves, they die sooner, no? Regardless of whether a person takes care of themselves or not a certain percentage of each group will die quickly and a certain percent will linger racking up the bills. The unhealthy person dying in their mid 60s would be a savings to Medicare as well.
correct... but if the populous stays healthier, longer, that expenditure becomes drastically less...

there are plenty of countries that use blended systems... government paid care, upto a percentage or amount, and private insurance to supplement..

we are the richest, most well equipped country on the fricking planet...

The problem Vermont and California run into is that states cant run deficits
What?
quote:
The National Conference of State Legislatures reports that Vermont is the only state that lacks some form of a balanced budget requirement. However, the group notes Wyoming, North Dakota and Alaska are sometimes cited as having no balanced budget requirements, as various laws and requirements are open to interpretation. Some states explicitly require balanced budgets, while others place constitutional caps on state indebtedness or have other spending limits.
