Former assessor and sheriff of Washington parish Randy “country” seal won many of an election by hitting every funeral home every night. He didn’t even know who was dead there. Just stopped at all of them on the way home, shook hands, told the folks at the box he was sorry, and headed to the next one. It was cheap but it worked.

That’s incredibly selfish. A funeral service is not about you. What you would prefer and what you would prefer to see is irrelevant. It’s about paying respect to the deceased and as much the surviving family.
I’m old. I’ve buried many in my family, many far younger than me and can remember almost all of those who came to give their condolences and those that didn’t. But for those that didn’t I still showed up to give my respect when they lost loved ones because I know how hard it is to loose someone you love. Maybe it’s time to think about others and what they are going through.

In a strange, sad way I tend to agree.
My paternal grandmother died when I was 10. I didn't want to go to the wake or the funeral, and my parents didn't force me. My maternal grandmother died when I was 14. I went to the wake but not the funeral. My dad died when I was 18, and I really didn't know how to act at either event, especially the funeral.
Looking back I wish I had gone to the others because I would have known what to expect and maybe done more than sit in a chair off by myself or walk to the casket and look in.

Your father taught you well. God bless him.

Yes perhaps in body, but we might be looking down to see who truly cared for us and our grieving family members.

It separates us from the beasts.

Is it? Life eternal with God the Father has to be pretty special. Perhaps it’s the best day of your life.
