They usually won't use spike strips at those speeds. I've watched a bunch of chases where spikes were used, and never once saw or heard of a cop getting hit. Those strips have long leads on them where they're usually well away from the road and maybe behind their own vehicles. It is supposed to be a coordinated effort, not a couple jack legs going off half cocked and acting like idiots.

That fricker didn't even unravel the lead on the thing. He threw it all out there and hoped for the best. You can see it hanging, still wrapped after he picks it back up.

Can't believe people think police chases are still good ideas.
People who drive like this should be taken out and shot immediately.

And people who think cops shouldn't try to arrest these people should be kicked in the dick.

Lots of unnecessary risk to recover a stolen car.

They don't pop tires, they cause them to slowly deflate.

Wtf are you talking about, cops are literally taught to call off police chases if it will endanger other drivers on the road. Throwing a spike strip just before a car going 100mph is approaching oncoming traffic is not protocol

Because no one would stop, especially felons and people with warrants. They are still going to run and they are still going to endanger other people.

Want to slow it? Make fleeing a stiff sentence.

Just like adding a stuff enhancement to a crime committed with a firearm would slow gun violence.

I think cops should just chase down and kill everyone that flees. Yeah we’d probably have a few innocent people killed here and there but it would be an overall net positive for society.

That van could have gone head on into those cars coming in the opposite direction after blowing out its tires or swerving to avoid the cop.

The spike strips do not blow the tires. The holes they cause release the air from the tires over a short length of time. The driver knows the tires are deflating. He can stop anytime.

Many states have a stiff sentence for it. Many have felony eluding. In California the second you flee in a vehicle you automatically get a year....mandatory. Then, they start tallying every speed you hit, every traffic law you break, and every infraction you make.

Considering he didn’t deploy them properly and left himself vulnerable to be struck by the fleeing vehicle, yeah.

Stop sticks are supposed to be setup and pulled in front of the vehicle with the attached cord, then pulled out of the way for the following police units.

Thankfully he was lucky and didn’t get struck by any of the vehicles involved.

That’s not how spike strips work. It’s essentially hollowed out nails and the tires gradually deflate.

There are a ton of Arkansas State Police Pursuit videos on youtube. Search for Trooper Jacob Byrd. The dude is a pursuit machine.
