Weren’t you talking about moving to Fayetteville or Greenville recently? Those aren’t large markets

It's a way of life someone like you with Dallas in your screen name would never understand. You mock everything related to Louisiana and shite on the politicians (probably based on racism), and culture and storms (out of anyone's control)... You shite on what you can't understand. You aren't worthy of Louisiana.
That said, I moved to Texas 20 years ago and never looked back.

Yeah, I just was mentioning that there are more opportunities in my field in big markets but I don't have much desire to live in one anymore.

The good news is that there are so many expats in the greater Houston area that it is starting to feel like home.
Can’t tell you how many houses i see flying the fleur de lis recently.

I'm sure Covid hasn't helped but they were having trouble finding tenants before all of this.
This isn’t going to be a Louisiana problem moving forward, this is going to be a general problem. Physical space is going to be less relevant moving forward for good.

see you even agree with me on the future prospects, just in a roundabout way
what is more likely, we get more or fewer of these opportunities over the next 20 years?
How many six figure jobs are out there in Louisiana that don’t require having your own business (ex. Lawyer, Dr, etc.)
Answer is there aren’t many. Engineers.

None of this is more than your opinion. I don’t care how emphatic you state it, how many times you repeat it, it’s an opinion.
we can based it on objective stats
how long do you think it will take LA to reach median-levels of violence?
we're currently 50th
or, are we going to argue now that living in a violent state is somehow just my subjective opinion and bears no weight on this discussion?

How many of these jobs exist out there in general when factored in for cost of living in those other areas?
Taking a six figure salary on its own isn’t an apples to apples comparison.

plant workers
offshore oil stuff (although that is dying out)
BR/Nola have a lot more, but both areas are propped up by businesses relying on labor making WAY lower

Left for good a long time ago. I visit frequently as my mom/sister and her kids are still there in Slidell.

and then there is this bright news on a sunny day
quote:
Louisiana is expected to take on hundreds of millions in debt from the federal government to stave off bankruptcy for its dissipating unemployment fund, and lawmakers acknowledged Tuesday they don’t yet have a plan on how to pay the money back.
quote:
In March, before the pandemic caused historic levels of unemployment, Louisiana’s unemployment trust fund was at more than $1 billion. Since then, it has experienced a stunning decline, and had only $100,000 as of Tuesday, Louisiana Workforce Commission Sec. Ava Dejoie said in an interview.

what can we do to attract them
Simple concept;
1. educated work force.
2. low taxes for companies.
3. quality of life that will attract workers.
Not always easy to implement...especially with politicians.

the people and food are why I’ve stayed in Louisiana.
Is what it always boils down to and is so laughable from an outside perspective.
For context, I spent 27 years living in almost every city worth it off I-10 and let me tell you boys, there is more out there. You can hunt and fish almost anywhere. You can find Cajun food in every big city now, and if not wtf can’t you cook it by now? People are people. You’ll find ones you hate and ones you love just like at home.

Have you ever felt legit threatened in your life living in this state? Every state is going to have an area you don’t want to be. Per capital, we have shitty areas. You’re lying, though, when you say you’re only thinking about low class whites when you make your arguments. You really are.
You made the argument earlier that Mississippi is improving...in what way and how did they do it? Violence, crime, education...all solvable issues. Just because the problem is difficult doesn’t play into your, “It’s impossible” argument. It’s also bullshite that you’re arguing anyone who stays is sacrificing their children’s futures to do so. That’s wildly misinformed and subjective. There are excellent educations for children to get in this state. My kids want to move when they get older, I’ll be happy for them wherever they go. But you came into this thread with an emotional argument, and you’re confused that anyone disagrees?
You’re playing with a broad brush that isn’t accurate. Sure, there’s violence and fat people and stupid people and any metric you want to find. It’s all there. But so are many reasons for people to choose to say, and some of those, shocker, will be economic.
Your doomsday predictions are currently here, nor are they guaranteed. Just because you can’t see better doesn’t mean there isn’t better.

yes

and LA has a LOT more of them compared to ANY other state

not really. i just moved to crime b/c it's clearly not a subjective thing. we can get wobbly on education, general QOL, etc. but crime is much more of an objectively measured issue. violent crime, specifically
LA has a particularly bad problem with crime, and it predominately is found in our urban areas (the areas we need to really improve to improve the state). also, crime is oft-ignored by the "LA isn't so bad" types for arguments literally like the one you just made. you are in one of the few bubbles, apparently, where violent crime isn't an issue. the vast majority of the state isn't so lucky
it's easy to ignore crime (and other pathologies) if you insulate yourself form it. the problem is we're talking about the state improving, not the handful of bubbles. those areas are supported by bigger areas, likely urban, that are going to have to do a lot better to keep those bubbles from being popped.
this is like the thread last week or so about the northshore, where people are arguing that the NS could survived, basically, if Nola didn't. no. it's a suburb of Nola and if Nola dies, the NS dies. if Nola loses economic progress, the NS does even moreso (since it doesn't produce enough on its own and relies primarily on Nola)

Would leave in a heartbeat if my wife would entertain the idea.

Wait, so is your argument that the cities are facing impending doom? Do you legit believe the cities in Louisiana are on the verge of collapse?
A LOT more? Really?
