I am actively pursuing a career change. Not necessarily because of COVID. I might even consider taking a few classes if need be.

No.

Thankfully I am still able to work 40 hours a week. Overtime has been cut permanently, but it could be worse. My company has actually been doing exceptionally well comparative to others in our market.

I know a lot of other companies in my industry that are laying off people in droves. Will be a bloodbath in 6-8 months when business picks back up and everyone is competing to refill positions.

As soon as the job market opens up I'm going to tell my boss that I am going to rape him so hard the room is going to stink and then I'm going to eat his butt and the HR lady's butt, in the stink until my stomach is full of their butts.

Already have. Got lucky and made an amazing hire in the fall and stopped me from having to be at the store 60 hours a week but with this covid bullshite, my wife will likely die if she gets it from existing conditions and my daughter and I also have tanked immune systems due to rheumatoid arthritis medicine. So I have been going in for like 2 hours twice a week and we have actually been fine.

We are an essential ag business so we have been slammed busy for our busy season and she (new employee) has knocked it out of the park so I told Miss Kap that when this is over, im not going back every day. frick that noise.

Work blows. People that live for their jobs make no sense to me. I'd retire tomorrow if I was able to.

I don't live for my job, but I do get a sense of pride out of it, and would probably keep doing it if I won the lotto tomorrow.

The rat race and the Joneses need to finally die and real people seize the motivation to pursue real lives instead of bullshite.

It’s an adolescent perspective. If Sunday night makes you Melancholy , it’s time to grow up. It’s called adulting. You should try it. It’s pretty good.

No, it’s called time to find a new job, Life is too short to waste time doing something that makes you depressed. Suck up, tough it out, and be an adult is the philosophy of a fool.

Not quite what the OP was asking (but others have answered this question):

I'm an EE that does design for hospitals, large multi-family residential, offices, and schools. Work-at-home has me really nervous about the latter two. We're busy as frick now, but I may brush up and stay sharp on electrical service/distribution in case things go to shite.

In terms of what the OP is asking, I'd like to work fewer hours, but I wouldn't sacrifice money to do so. Something like four 9s would be cool.

Friday afternoons are great but it's bitter sweet knowing we have to get stuff done at home and if we're lucky we'll really have 1 day to actually do stuff we want to do. And the bliss of Friday afternoons is far outweighed by the sadness of Sunday nights.
Look on the bright side, you get a whole week off for vacation per year (or two if you’re lucky) to take the family to the beach.

That’s what’s always kept me out of the “9 to 5, five days a week” jobs. I think I would eat a bullet if I only had one or two short vacations per year to look forward to. Owning my own business totally spoiled me for being able to take off when I wanted, for as long as I wanted. God I miss those 12 day elk hunting trips to Colorado every fall.

I agree with what you said, but I'm stuck in the rat race and can't get out for a long time.

Sucks, but got to provide.

No, I've long thought the US rat race of 40 hours per week with 2-3 weeks of annual vacation to be stupid and inefficient.

This virus isn't going to change that dynamic though because this country worships at the alter of capitalism and any efforts to change it will be met with cries of socialism.

I'm self employed and already worked from home about 30% of the time pre-virus. I've discovered that I can work much more efficiently from home...so, even when this is over, I will still work from home 90% of the time.
