I’ll go in 30 minutes before with a to-go order, but no way am I sitting down to eat right before closing

The movie “Waiting” covers this scenario very accurately

I would never do that. Not only am I averse to snot in my food, but because it is just a decent thing to do.
have walked out of restaurants before because it was too close to closing time (always told them why and that I would be back tomorrow).

Kitchen should close before the dining room. Just ask.
But I guess if you are a douchebag you just don't give a shite.

I am a 45 minute before guy and that moves up to 1 hour on slow nights (M-W). They are going to break down their mise earlier on slow nights. Never mind what they might do to the food, you don't want someone cooking out of the walk-in, that's how you get poor food.

Once in my life have I been to a restaurant late. Had a car break down and by time we got somewhere to eat it was close to closing. Simply went in and asked and told them if they say no I’m ok with that. They were very accommodating and got a nice tip.

The only way I’m going into a restaurant 45 minutes before close is to order food to go and it better be on the busy nights.

Nah, nothing inside the last hour for me. If I want / need to eat that late it won't be a sit down establishment.

I worked in the kitchen of a nice restaurant when I was in HS. I learned a lot about preparing food. I also learned to never go to a restaurant within 30 minutes of them closing (60 minutes is a good rule actually).
Especially if it was a slow night, that kitchen will have been scrubbed down and the chef will be ready to bounce. You might get away with ordering a burger or anything he can just toss on the grill, but you are playing with fire.

I worked at a Johnny Carinos. We closed at 10pm. We’d lock the door at 10pm. If you showed up at 9:59pm you’d be seated and served. Most of the staff would be cut at that point but they kept enough to cover a few stragglers. Once had a 15 top come in from out of town at 9:45. It was annoying but they were nice and tipped well. Personally, I wouldn’t do it. As they start closing the kitchen, just not going to be as attentive to each dish so quality gonna dip. Most of that shite is pre-made anyways and what hasn’t already been thrown out has been sitting around for hours. Still safe just not as good/fresh.

My first real job was a dishwasher in a restaurant....I can tell you for certain this is not a good idea if you enjoy your food to be sanitary and cooked correctly.

If I’m hungry and a restaurant is open, I’m going in. Otherwise, don’t let people in.
I’m more concerned with the buisness owner than the cook. I’m sure the owner wants me to spend my money.

They they should put a sign out at 9 or 930 saying they are closed to prevent that. Problem solved

The people who do who tip extra, I think that's also more tolerable.
Is the server tipping out the kitchen staff?
Just don't do it. Corporate or not. It's a dick move.

Absolutely not. I don’t go anywhere within an hour of close.

When I was a high school kid, I worked at Big Star supermarket in Many.
Would have people come in just before close at 8 p.m. and nonchalantly stroll up and down every aisle. If we had mopped early, had to mop again.
I felt extreme violence when the manager would unlock the door at 7:59 p.m. and let somebody bring a buggy in. I'm getting worked up just thinking about it.
