ACtually, P'Ville school scores and standings continue to improve, even with the influx of new students.

I think most AP schools have good or improving scores. My problem is the busing due to subdivisions being built all over. I live on family land and get bused to a school on the other side of the parish. Thankfully our kids are almost done with school.

Keep one thing in mind - each of these outlying areas contain the same general prevailing attitudes and wisdom Baton Rouge demonstrated years ago, except throw in small town politics. Without solid planning and bold leadership, infrastructure problems will be deferred until crippling. Developers will dictate growth patterns, and old area will be abandoned for new growth. Residents will continue chasing the next neighborhood utopia, only to leave it behind a decade later. You will end up with same patchwork city spread out too far for the tax base and infrastructure, and large scale areas of neglect with no ready solution.

It is incredible that people have learned nothing from New Orleans or other large cities. On the plus side, property values in the middle of BR are going to keep rising.

Ascension does a great job in their hiring process... teachers want to teach in ascension due to pay and opportunities.

I agree. The teachers are great. I just wish my kids could go to the school less than a mile from the house, rather than the one ten miles away.

Agreed. It was such a pleasant little place back then, but no longer. Now, we must find a way to make the most of the new AP. What once was will never be again.

I headed for the hills in East Feliciana for the small town life. Nice and peaceful and the rules state where I live that only one house per ten acres.... and I love it.

I am bullish about prairieville. Have lived here 5 years. While I love how quiet and peaceful it is (was used to police siren lullabies and crime) compared to when we lived closer to LSU, I am sick of the crazy amounts of neighborhood developments without proper infrastructure. Everything is done backwards here: throw up 100+house subdivisions and then worry about the traffic clusterF in a few years. The more I've learned about the politics of AP, the more irritated I get. Good old boys breaking rules and always getting pockets stuffed by these developers.

We've become really fed up, and the schools aren't enough reason to keep us here. Have been looking at lots in a few Baton Rouge hoods (albeit not far from prairieville) because it doesn't seem the infrastructure situation is going to get better any time soon.

Synopsis: young professional couple with small child living in Pville for 5 years but tired of the business as usual/screwing residents. Would rather pay for private school than waiting around for AP to stop screwing prairieville residents.

Are apartments being built? If so, then bearish. Apartments almost always bring the trash. Sometimes takes a while.

Prairieville is the nicest suburb around BR...but... Turning Airline Highway into Prairieville main street has been a detriment to the entire BR region. That should be a stretch of highway that moves fast, as the speed limits are 55-65 mph. And businesses continue to be allowed to build along it, and add driveways onto the highway. And lights continue to be added at additional intersections. This lack of regulation will continue escalate the traffic problems in that area.

This is a huge problem. But a bigger problem to property values are the extremely cheaply built neighborhoods. Area Planners need to have rules that house have 80%-90% high quality building materials like brick. I see these neighborhoods in AP and Zachary being built where the front is brick and the rest is cheap siding making it look like fake houses. 5 years from now these neighborhoods will be trash. If you cannot afford a well built house you should probably be in an apartment because these houses will need a lot of maintenance you cannot afford.

No way. They are developing neighborhoods in the Baton Rouge suburbs that are sure to bring the entire area down in 5 years. These houses will be falling apart and filled with trash. I cannot understand why area planners allow such crappy houses.

If you only compare neighborhoods people would be willing to raise a family in, Prairieville is much cheaper.

The onus is on you. I just pointed out how your high level approach has faults.
