If you live they can't take your organs.. that's the point

Makes no difference if you check "organ donor" when you go to the DMV. If you don't tell your loved ones your wishes...they can refuse organ donation and the hospital will honor their wishes(if they are the next of kin responsible for making those decisions). The doctors could hold your driver's license in their hands and see organ donor on it...won't matter if your next of kin refuses.
Yeah but having "organ donor" on your card is a pretty easy way to communicate to people that you want your organs donated. That includes your family. Naturally, you should discuss it with them ahead of time, but having that clearly marked on your ID makes the conversation likelier to go in the way of your organs getting donated.

Yep. My everyone in my family is too. My mom's eyes and several other organs helped save and improve people's lives.

die in a fire

edit: actually don't, then there would be no chance for your organs to be donated.

Doesn't even have to be they are assholes. What if you are injured and basically brain dead and dependent on ventilators to live? Even though the doctors will tell family over and over that only the machines are keeping you alive and would the family like to consider organ donation and pulling the plug instead...some families would rather keep someone "alive" at all costs....and refuse any talk on organ donation. Making your wishes well known to family makes it easier for them to make such tough decisions.

Yes. I won't be using my body after I'm dead. If it can be used to help people and do something positive then great. I have talked to some people who say they don't like the idea of having their body cut up. I can't even begin to understand why you would care.

Which is why I made my comment. I'm a donor.

And if you die they can't take your organs. Sounds like they will probably err on the side of not getting the shite sued out of them

Seems a bit suspect. Exactly why I'm not an organ donor

3 hours after my mother was declared dead at the hospital the organ donor team called and asked for her skins, liver, kidney, bone marrow and eyes.

I told them to frick off.

Yes, they are of no use to me after I'm dead. If they can help someone else, why not.

Exactly. Organ donation doesn't cost any extra to the family. And your body will still be presentable enough for an open casket funeral.

When children die, organ donation can also offer some comfort to the parents. They can take comfort knowing that their child was still able to help other children. I've read touching stories where parents of children who died met the children and parents their child's organs went to. Some develop a strong bond with the child and their parents and stay close to them.

It's no good if they wait until she's in the fricking ground. Did she elect to be a donor?

To be fair...time is very critical in these situations. In order for organs to still be viable to be donated...sometimes they have to act fast and that means approaching family. The people working for donor teams go through extensive training on how to approach family in a respectful manner, realizing that the family is going through a very difficult time right now.
