Starting in the late 60s, the big 3 here started using the same body styles across all their lines, and that was what I think was the beginning of the end of innovative design.

Then in the late 80s/early 90s everybody started smoothing all the angles out of body designs, like inflating a balloon that used to be an angular design. So everything turned kind of blobbish instead of something sleek with curves.

If any manufacturer had the balls to break away from what’s safe and return to a little artistry in car design, they’d sell a ton of cars and have everybody else chasing them.

its more about production cost. retooling a plant because of failed design cost millions to billions.
