Are Volvo s40's reliable?

I found a used one on auto-trader for a good deal and wanted to know if they were decent.

No, but you could survive a head-on collision with a tank. Volvos don't run worth a shite, but they are the safest vehicles on the road.

They are expensive to work on and not that reliable. Nothing major ever went out on the one I had but little shite was breaking on it all the time. Several models are known to have transmission issues and they cannot currently be reliably rebuilt.

They're tiny as hell I'm 5'11 and could barely get into the thing. I had to consciously try not to hit the gas and brake at the same time and I wear a 12 boot.

I've had S40 years ago and I own a S60 and XC60 and all of the have been excellent, reliable rides.

I had a '98 S-70 that took me to Key West FL, Deadhorse AK, Baxter State Park ME, San Diego CA, and and pretty much every where in between. I had ~250,000 miles on it when it flooded in Hurricane Isaac.
I had minimal maintenance problems with it over 13+ years, especially considering what I put it through. I've never had a S-40, but I'm a Volvo fan.

OT baller. The 15 XC90 is awesome. Hoping that the 16 XC60 gets the same treatment - that will be our next vehicle.
We have an XC90 and an S60. I am a fan of the Volvo.
