A couple i know might singlehandedly be keeping Michalopoulos in business.

Admittedly, his stuff is pretty cool though.

When it comes to city business industries that launder money, I mean, art galleries aren't even in the top 10.

For the people that own them, sales of art in the gallery isn't their only source of income. Many of them are artists themselves and are selling their own art. Many of the galleries rent out their space for fancy parties. Many of them are owned by people who are rich from other areas and don't need to make money from the art gallery.

Only one way to find out.

Go by one with about 10 grand in a paper bag and explain to the owner that you are in the "concierge pharmaceuticals" business and that you are interested in making some "alternative investments" that "greatly minimize your tax exposure and reporting requirements" and see what they recommend.

Be sure to broadly wink while you're explaining that.

Art galleries not so much. Arcades, Laundromats and Casinos are where the real money is laundered.

Art in general is mind-blowing to me in terms of pricing.

There's a whole gallery on Royal of James Dean Pete the Cat originals. I thought I'd stop in one day and drop $200-$300 on a small canvas for my son's room. $3,500! For a fricking cartoon character. I walked out of there pretty quickly.

It’s one claim, singular.

I wonder how much of the “high dollar” New Orleans art is bought by Asian tourists

My dad says the same thing about Indian restaurants.

Yep. Andy Warhols soup can sold for over 11 million and I see little difference between that and my sons 4th grade drawing of a Tabasco bottle.

Just duct tape a banana to a wall, and you're in business.

Yeah, they launder money from dumb tourists.

I don't understand this statement? Do you know how laundering even works?

Hell I had a friend that I don't consider that rich who dropped $15K in one shop over a two month period.

Hopefully he’s just really humble and doesn’t tell people he’s rich because that’s just retarded.

Not sure why you laugh at that statement. It might not be to you or because you might live in South Louisiana and see it different that people from other areas of the world, but it is known for its art and culture.. Internationally

I successfully negotiated this one down from 6 figures to the high 5 figures.

Funny thing is, I've not seen that guy on Royal in a while...
